Historia
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

Timeless...
Revisado: 08-01-24
Hemmingway isolates us with an old fisherman, but beloved, this is no ordinary "old fisherman". Santiago has had a hard life. We, the reader, can only assume this, due to a lack of background, but with enough foreshadowing Hemminway allows the readers imagination to fill in the blanks. In this classic tale Santiago embarks on the high seas and hooks into a fate that would become a metaphoric journey about the struggle of life. Haunting, beautiful and timeless, the Old Man In the Sea will remain with the reader long after its final page is turned.

Historia
Written to help listeners better understand Jesus's life, death, and ultimate mission, this new book by well-known preacher John MacArthur looks at an important - yet often misunderstood - section of the Bible: Isaiah 53. Often hailed as one of the greatest chapters in the Bible, this passage foretells the crucifixion of Jesus, a critical event in God's ultimate plan for salvation. Explaining the prophetic words of Isaiah 53 verse by verse, MacArthur highlights important connections to the history of Israel and to the New Testament.

A must for every Christian
Revisado: 02-26-22
Im somewhat new to theology but thoroughly enjoyed this listen with my heart mind and soul. Very sound doctrinal presentaion that really resonatesd with me. There is a passion for the subject material which is clear from McArthurs teachings. Ive also recently listened to a 21 hour lecture from RC Sproul who is also a great teacher but I think I enjoy McArthur approach more. Sproul can come across as too matter or fact and a little ego driven..

Awful, not the Bentley Little I remember
Revisado: 11-02-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
No, its just not a good story. I only gave it two stars because the narrator was stellar.
What was most disappointing about Bentley Little’s story?
Boring characters with no common sense.
Which character – as performed by Ramiz Monsef – was your favorite?
Patoff
Do you think The Consultant needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No. The story really demands the reader suspend all application of common sense and practical belief (Magical rooms appearing in a building/mazes/tons of suspicious deaths and no investigation etc), This was just a very bad story and not the Bentley Little I remember. The Bentley Little I remember wrote The Store which had me on the edge of my seat. No surprises or plot twists just a very diabolical creature who we really never learn much of.... nor do I care to find out about in a sequel.

Disappointed.

Interesting Premise
Revisado: 02-25-15
Thin story, somewhat void of great detail. I wanted to know more about Dr. Carp and the project. Cloe and Ash were good characters but their pairing felt uns balanced. I would read more from this author but would also expect better pacing and less side stories. The kids on the bike felt unimportant to the story and served as a distraction.

Using Science to prove God is clever.
Revisado: 04-23-14
Would you listen to Calculating God again? Why?
Yes. In fact, I'm almost sure to do so. The content stayed with me long after the last words were uttered.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Hollis. Hollis was a black and white type character and deviated very little from her objective. I think all people need a Hollis, someone to tell you the truth and not just what you want to hear.
What does Jonathan Davis and Robert J. Sawyer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I think Mr. Sawyer has created something very special in this work. I think it will stand the test of time and one day be mentioned in the same breath as Bradbury, Dick, Asimov, and of course Clarke. If fact I think this work passes all but Clarke and maybe 451.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. But that applies to any audiobook. I like to digest them over time.
Any additional comments?
I never read or for that matter listened to anything by this author. His knowledge of the subject matter was incredible and I imagine well researched as I did not validate any of it. The level of detail that exists in our universe is extremely complex to say the least and Mr. Sawyer sparred no detail. Does GOD exist? I think he/she/it exist's as much as a bird, a breeze, a whisper, a wink, a sigh, a yawn, a moonlight walk, or a falling sparrow does. Did the Universe Create God? Did GOD preserve what he was and create people? I don't know but for don't think, not even for a second, this is all a coincidence. Finally, I'd like to think that something like cancer is a fly in the ointment of creation. Sawyer tackles this with a very fascinating analysis. Well done Mr. Sawyer this Sir, must be your masterpiece, not sure what you do for an encore but I will tune in. Thanks.
