Great Book and Series, but I’m not a fan of Virtual Voice

I have read (in Kindle) all of the books in this series, and in each of the ones that merged to make this most recent series. I have absolutely loved them and have recommended them to friends many times.

When I downloaded the Kindle version of this book it suggested purchasing the audio version for $1.99. I was so excited! I prefer listening to audiobooks, so having the author create each of the books in audio form has been my wish for a while. I love that the books are finally being published in audio versions, but l’m not a fan of Virtual Voice. This is the first book I’ve listened to with Virtual Voice narrating.

Once I got into the book, the narration wasn’t as bad as I initially thought when listening to the sample. If I had gone by the sample alone, I wouldn’t have listened to the book. The book is currently included in my plan for no additional charge, so I was able to temporarily download the audiobook for free.

While the narration is much better than listening to my phone read an electronic book, it’s still missing the performance that a voice actor supplies. There was some inflection, which surprised me, but it didn’t match the scene or sentence at times, and of course there were no individual voices used.

Overall I would say if you aren’t able to read the Kindle version, or that the audio version is much more convenient for you, then this is worth it. Especially if it’s included in your plan, or only $1.99. I personally would not buy this if it were a higher (or normal for Audible) amount.

I enjoyed the book, but the narration was extremely flat, until the very end of the book.

The story was okay, but I think my opinion of it was dragged down because of how poor I thought the narration was. The narrator’s male voice was ok, but her female voice was annoying. Her cadence and the way she read sentences gave the book a very immature feel.

Extremely Slow and Drawn-Out

This book just didn't meet my expectations. It doesn't bother me that this book is a different genre than Fifty Shades, but I would expect the quality to be as good if not better. The overall story was good, but it was so slow and just dragged on. For a 16.5 hour book, not a lot actually happened and I felt like a lot was left out. There were just areas where it was boring and repetitive. I really hated the way the male lead's part was written in first-person but the female lead's part was written in third-person. It made her sound like an idiot, although the narrative of the book made it sound like she was highly intelligent but naive. I also had to increase the play-back speed to 1.5 times normal just to tolerate listening because the speech was so slow. This is definitely not a book I would ever listen to again, and I wouldn't recommend it to a friend.

Disappointing male voices...

This is one that would be better read rather than listened to. The overall performance was overly dramatic in areas where it didn't need to be and all the male voices were a disappointment. The male voices were all too whiney and feminine. I didn't even realize that the doctor was supposed to be a man in the first scenes. I had to go back and read the description of the book again to make sure the book was about a man and woman rather than two women.
