Historia
England, 1914. The world is at war. Captain Hastings, injured and shaken, is invited to Styles Court to recover. It’s a grand old country house - the family home of his old friend - and a perfect haven. Or so it seems. But in the blistering summer heat, trouble is afoot. Simmering tensions are tearing the family apart, and it all comes to a head in the most horrifying way.

This was delightful. Every aspect was so well done. Peter Dinklage is the Poirot we’ve all needed since he was written.

Historia
Deborah Harkness first introduced the world to Diana Bishop, an Oxford scholar and witch, and vampire geneticist Matthew de Clermont in A Discovery of Witches. Drawn to each other despite long-standing taboos, these two otherworldly beings found themselves at the center of a battle for a lost, enchanted manuscript known as Ashmole 782. Since then, they have fallen in love, traveled to Elizabethan England, dissolved the Covenant between the three species, and awoken the dark powers within Diana’s family line.

Deb Harkness has a way with taking hundreds of threads and creating the most lovely stories. I can’t wait to see what magic she weaves next.

Historia
As a professional thief, Esme Bellerose's daylong job interview was going well: She'd come through most of it with only a black eye, bloody lip, broken wrist, a few cracked ribs, and talon marks from a ruby-throated dragon - but at least she wasn't missing any pieces. And if she could only survive until the five o'clock hour, she'd land the job that was every mystic thief's dream: employment at SPL Inc. But the head of SPL, Elric Ostergaard, has other plans, and he's put one additional task on Esme's job application, which must be completed before he'll hire her.

Historia
Long ago, so the Storyteller claimed, the evil god Torak sought dominion and drove men and Gods to war. But Belgrath the Sorcerer led men to reclaim the Orb that protected the West. So long as it lay at Riva, the prophecy went, men would be safe. That was only a story, and Garion did not believe in magic dooms, even though the man without a shadow had haunted him for years.

Childhood Memories Come Alive
Revisado: 05-22-23
I first read the Belgariad when I was 10 years old and have re-read the book countless times. Over the past 7 or so years, whenever I miss my old friends, I listen to the whole series of audiobooks. Hearing, “The first the the boy Garion remembered was the kitchen at Faldor’s Farm,” takes me back to Christmases with my grandma and simultaneously into the plains of Algaria, the snowy forests of Cherek, the fields of grain in Sendaria, and to a campfire with the whole crew somewhere in their wide world. Some aspects of the story haven’t aged well, but I love it so much. Beginning to end. I think I’ll go restart it now.

Revisado: 02-17-23
I don’t usually read/listen to YA books but this one was recommended several times. I’m so glad I listened to it. The story is addictive and I can’t wait to find out how Mare’s story concludes at the end of the series. Really entertaining.

Historia
Tom Felton’s adolescence was anything but ordinary. His early rise to fame in beloved films like The Borrowers catapulted him into the limelight, but nothing could prepare him for what was to come after he landed the iconic role of the Draco Malfoy, the bleached blonde villain of the Harry Potter movies. For the next ten years, he was at the center of a huge pop culture phenomenon and yet, in between filming, he would go back to being a normal teenager trying to fit into a normal school. Speaking with great candor and his signature humor, Tom shares his experience.

I loved every minute of this
Revisado: 11-10-22
It’s difficult to articulate the many feelings I experienced while listening to this audiobook. I laughed so often, and even cried a couple times. Tom seems like such a genuine, kind person and it was cool to get to know the man behind Draco and understand more of where his ukelele TikTok’s come from. Now, someone give that man babies.

Historia
As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

Charmed & Fun
Revisado: 09-20-22
I enjoyed this second installment into Hayden’s new life in Destiney Falls. We are still getting to know the island through Hayden’s day-to-day, this book continues the delightful world building of the first, and because of this, I felt that the murder in this story definitely took a back seat. Learning more about the mysterious Emily was a welcome treat and I’m looking forward to seeing this series unfold as Hayden gets used to the Destiney Falls way.
A small note: the narrator’s focus on enunciation was somewhat distracting for me and I found that listening on 1.2 speed was more enjoyable.
