As a professional thief, Esme Bellerose's daylong job interview was going well: She'd come through most of it with only a black eye, bloody lip, broken wrist, a few cracked ribs, and talon marks from a ruby-throated dragon - but at least she wasn't missing any pieces. And if she could only survive until the five o'clock hour, she'd land the job that was every mystic thief's dream: employment at SPL Inc.

But the head of SPL, Elric Ostergaard, has other plans, and he's put one additional task on Esme's job application, which must be completed before he'll hire her. Namely, Elric wants the famed Faberge egg, created for the last tsarina, but stolen away by Russian mystic Grigori Rasputin. The magically infused egg has life-saving properties, and it's worth a king's ransom.

For Esme, accepting the task is easy; finding the egg after Grigori has been brutally murdered while also being forced to mentor a bullheaded mystic detective in the middle of a family squabble is the trickier part. And things just seem to get more complicated from there. But Esme has little choice. Either she brings Elric the egg, or she'll end up as dragon kibble.

Honestly I wasn’t sure I would like this book BUT once it started I couldn’t get enough of it. Every twist and turn leaves you wanting more. I can’t wait to read the second edition in this series so hopefully there is one.

The first chapter didn’t give me a ton of hope, I powered through the beginning and ended up finding myself disappointed that a sequel isn’t around the corner

Totally enjoyed this book. Intrigued with the intersecting lives of the characters. The world creation was believable and easily understood. Can’t wait to read the next one.

Fun and with great narration the story weaves a an interesting tale of magic, mystery, friendship, and trinkets.
Trinkets are what it’s all about.

This story was a really great read. Great world building and cast of characters. It says book one on the title page and I'm wondering what happened and why there isn't booked two and three? I hope the author someday writes more in this series.

I listened to this book and immediately started it over so I could listen again. Victoria has done a wonderful job with the story. Love love the characters in this latest series!!

I Thoroughly enjoyed this story. I found it creative, not just another copy of a copy of a similar storyline.
The narrator was wonderful. Almost as good as Amy McFadden and that's saying a lot.
I would say worth it.

I actually really liked this book! I had a couple of moments where I was like…. Meh…. But a couple more minutes in and it drew me back in. I’m looking forward to the continuation!
