Sherman is charmingly eccentric. The plot isn't much of an actual mystery. There's just enough heart to keep the book from feeling flat. Definitely a good listen.

I'm four hours in and still at the "What am I? Where am I?" phase of the story. I could possibly see an argument for dragging that out as a sort of mystery for the listener; however, the title of the book and the blurb give you the answers, so now I'm just waiting for the story to get on with itself. On top of that, the characters are flat, the world isn't interesting, and the story isn't doing anything new with the genre. Everything about the book so far is so uninspired that it feels like it was written by a passionless committee that was desperate to clock out for the day. I'm disappointed that the algorithm advertised this to me. The narrator is fine. I've enjoyed his work on other titles, but his talents don't lend themselves to the sillier aspects of this story.

I really enjoyed the first one. The second one was painfully boring. I was hoping this third installment would get things back on track, but for the most part it doesn't. While there are some good moments of suspense and excitement, the story rarely feels like anything is happening. And there are more than a few times when it's easy to predict what will happen. I feel like the writer knows that there isn't enough plot to sustain this series but they're getting paid per minute of run time so they're stretching it out. If the fourth installment doesn't wrap things up, then I'll be convinced it's a cash grab. (Though honestly I'm tempted to skip the next one regardless.) The characters are well realized, but that alone isn't enough to keep things interesting.

For non-story stuff: The performances are solid. I would happily listen to something else by these voice actors. Some of the production, though, is maddening. In fact, I really wish Audible had a ratings row just for it. When listening with headphones, the production is acceptable. When listening without headphones, there are times when the voices disappear into the distance as if to convey that they're not close to the main character or they're on the other side of a door or something like that, and you have to keep raising the volume in order to hear them and then lowering the volume right away so that the other characters aren't blaring at you. Absolutely hate it. And the outro music for each episode is unnecessary. It doesn't add to the ambience, it slows the story down even more, and adds to the sense that the writer is getting paid per minute of run time.

This was fine. A decent listen between other books. The characters don't have depth and the plot feels more like things happen as opposed to the characters solving the puzzle. But the story moves along well enough, and the performances and production are good.

Not Ray Porter's strongest performance, mainly because he didn't seem aware that the story is not set in the US. (I mean obviously he knew, but he barely used any accent and when it did show up it was jarring.)

The story was fine. It hits most of the time travel tropes, which makes many parts predictable. The very very very end of it is unnecessary and the more I think about it the more it actually feels silly.

I enjoyed the optimism and how it was melded with sometimes-goofy fun. If you enjoy the comic, you'll definitely enjoy this.

Lots of anime fetish, predictable "twists", inconsistent plot elements. But if you're super into this genre, you'll probably enjoy it.

Great performances and an interesting story that feels like it's going to develop into _something_ but then culminates in an ending that resolves nothing. It's like the writers didn't know how to answer all the questions they raised so they just called it quits. It might work if there was a season 2, but after searching the internet, it doesn't look like that's happening. If a season 2 does happen, I will definitely check it out. Otherwise, this podcast is ultimately disappointing.

You will be bored to tears. BUT! In the middle of being bored to tears, you will get to hear the characters' absurd thoughts about sex, the cringiest of which being a 17-year-old girl who reflects on her sexual experiences in terms that will make you think she must have been raised on hardcore pornography. Perhaps it's meant to be shocking or upsetting or ... something. In the end, though, it's neither. Instead it just reinforces the authors' shortcomings when it comes to writing relatable, believable, or even enjoyable characters.

My daughter (a first grader), enjoyed. I, as the adult who had to listen to it while we drove places, found it acceptable. A critical ear will wonder about some of the casting and some of the storytelling decisions. A kid who loves the Adam’s Family movies will insist you buy the next “Ghostsitter” book the moment this one is finished.
