choices MC makes are childish
Revisado: 04-06-25
Is the author American? A lot of the common words are British also how the MC and others handle weapons are like a person who wants to be cool but really isn't comfortable with the weapons. Most Americans, who are around weapons, get threatened by someone pointing a gun at them they do not say bravado phrases like "you won't shoot me" and then go back to insulting or attacking. That's just childish. The MC should be dead for choices over and over for instance (spoiler) keep talking and socializing with and allow your travel mate to drink with people who you know are lying then letting one of them go onto the woods where you can't see them and somehow get the gun you supposedly can see. Also the school scene was ludicrous. As I said MC should be dead 100xs over with his foolish choices and slow reactions.
I appreciate the real reader

hard to trust an author who doesn't know the area
Revisado: 03-11-25
It was a good book except if you are going to write about an area of the country at least GO there. How can you trust anything this author writes about if she can't get something so small as shells or rocks correct?
Chicago is on Lake Michigan and the couple walked along the beach all the while the gal was collecting shells. Lake Michigan does not have shells like the ocean does. The sand is made from rocks you collect stones.
It is sometimes called "the singing sand" because it sings when you walk in it. I grew up on Lake Michigan and we collect beautiful stones and fossils not shells. This small point is why Christian authors get such a bad rap. They deserve the bad press by not doing basic research.

virtual voice ruins
Revisado: 02-18-25
Authors should just read their books themselves or have a buddy read them. Virtual voice took a really good book and made it okay. It was very good other than squirrel has very little fat and no one on earth wants to eat a squirrel or raccoon gag over beef. He talked like the one cow that they killed wouldn't be enough for six people. after processing there would be about 500 lb of meat. that goes a long way.

good book
Revisado: 02-09-25
I love these types of books. I find it hilarious though how they kept saying how Grace was the best of the best but she made constant mistakes at every engagement. She was worried about Joe's mental health but her past and mental health was terrible and unhealed! I also notice how there is a continual lament about killing people but the people I have ever read who are actual special operatives are not bothered by killing. And then there's the everyone else including citizens should not have weapons but WE the people who are authorized by the government can have weapons.
Ray Porter is the best voice actor ever!
The author is good but his politics do bleed through and it gets old.

Revisado: 01-19-25
1. Authors please just read your own book or have a friend do it. Virtual voice sucks life from, well, everything.
2. Chapter 7; Time 18:38 "we ask all this in the name of Your Son DELETED amen"
Real obvious that the name of the son of God was removed (sloppily)from the prayer

socialism in the guise of gov continuity
Revisado: 11-02-24
well it was certainly fascinating getting a cops view of how to go about EMP aftermath. They decided to protect "the people " they would "requisition" (aka steal) food and other necessities as well as not necessaries (such as paper and pens). They gave the either or scenario of either we go about this (stealing) honorably (can't honorably steal) or do it dishonorably.. I am certainly not able to see the difference.
They intimate the gov of California is a Socialist-communist and then they steal food to redistribute it.
All in all it was a really good book to understand the thinking of those in authority (at least in CA) and that they will take your stuff. The stuff you saved for and worked for and planned for (which they did not) all in the name of protecting you.
Beware.

Two years after an attack brought down the electrical grid across the United States, the recovery effort is well underway. A new network of armored trains carry supplies and industrial equipment crucial to rebuilding the country. But along the rails, one area of America is still mired in darkness, violence, and danger. Some call it the Badlands. Others the Wild West. The government simply refers to it as the New Frontier.

this seems to be a book about always waiting and needing the federal gov to do anything
Revisado: 10-03-24
I disliked the idea that this book is (I think) supposed to be post disaster strength of the American spirit, but it is pretty much gives a message that we can't do anything for ourselves without big gov., the UN and other countries help. And there is a significant amount of the politicians doing nothing or very little but we still fight for them.
Everyone stands around waiting for gov help. Ever heard of seeds and farming for yourself? lol
