Historia
Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells - taken without her knowledge - became one of the most important tools in medicine: The first “immortal” human cells grown in culture, which are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than 60 years. HeLa cells were vital for developing the polio vaccine; uncovered secrets of cancer, viruses, and the atom bomb’s effects.

Not a science lesson
Revisado: 06-24-23
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Even though I am a registered nurse I don’t think you needed to really have a science background to understand it. I really enjoyed the family side of the story. It really makes you think about what capitalism does to society in ways, we don’t often think about, I hope a lot of scientists read this book so they can realize there are real people behind the lenses of their telescopes.

Historia
Thanks to environmental pollutants, iodine deficiency has become a worldwide epidemic. Everybody knows pollutants cause cancer. What they don't know is that these pollutants cause a deficiency that can make us sick, fat, and stupid. Iodized salt - supposedly a solution to iodine deficiency - is actually a nutritional scam that provides a false sense of security. The Iodine Crisis explains how we became so deficient, then shows the time-tested solution to reversing many conditions.

Right up there with water fluoridation and vaccines
Revisado: 01-27-23
I’m a retired nurse. I was regarded as a tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist by my co-workers due to my belief in removing fluoride from the water and that you can’t find health at the end of a vaccine needle. Thankfully, Covid has started to raise the veil on the lack of research put into vaccine development and people are starting to wake up.
I feel after this book, iodine suffers from the same problems associated with my other beliefs. The medical industry has been co opted by money hungry corporations. They infiltrated our regulatory agencies to the point we only get propaganda and lies vs research and truth.
I’m going to start this protocol and see what happens with my cystic breasts and hypothyroidism.
Thank you Lynn for writing this book. We could use more soldiers like you in the anti-fluoride and anti-vax world. If people are given the right resources, they can find the truth and be better advocates for their own health. Slowly, the information is getting out there thanks to diligent lay people and naturopathic doctors. Keep up the good work.

Making the afterlife slow and boring
Revisado: 08-11-22
If you had a chance to speak to the dead, wouldn’t you ask them all kinds of questions about what it’s like there?! I found this book frustrating in the fact it lacked any depth or answers about what the afterlife is really like. I’m assuming from this book that it’s an eternity lacking in the unconventional love and beauty you hear about. These people may be unstuck, but if that’s heaven they went to, it sounds boring. If it’s not heaven, then it sounds like you have to spend a long time dead before you get there.
The author speaks way too slowly. I had to increase the speed to tolerate it. Also, he fills the book by repeating everything thing we hear the dead person say through him the first time. It’s a lot of wasted time repeating prayers and restating stories.
I found this book highly disappointing. If the second book is more of the same it too would be a waste of time.

Historia
Part manual and part memoir, Jenniffer Weigel pulls back the curtain of her life and shares how getting a divorce and moving away from her "white picket fence" dream actually helped her gain a greater awareness and happiness. Her sense of humor reminds us that even though staying on the spiritual path has its fair share of challenges, you are not alone and you will laugh again.

Disappointed
Revisado: 02-27-21
I’d read I’m spiritual dammit and enjoyed it so I thought I’d try another one of Jen’s books. It was very disappointing - it just wasn’t interesting. I also found the part about her husband and marriage not working out confusing. She appears to work so hard at every other obstacle in her life that her divorce made no sense at all. It almost made me wonder if she’s just making up all of the life lessons she writes about.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Totally gripping!
Revisado: 02-07-12
Where does 11-22-63 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Best audiobook I've listened to so far! I literally spent every free minute listening and put much of my life on hold for awhile!
Have you listened to any of Craig Wasson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Not sure if I've heard Craig Wasson before, but I loved his wide array of voices which helped bring the story to life and keep characters straight in my mind.
Any additional comments?
Didn't care for the commentary by King at the end....sounds like he's trying to sell the 'official story' a little too hard and makes it seem like propaganda...I never really explored the conspiracy theories on JFK and haven't seen Oliver Stone's movie, but his words rubbed me the wrong way and almost led me to explore the possibilities!

Doesn't Work
Revisado: 02-07-12
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Difficult to follow without visualizing word problems and having time to think over problems.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
More outside the box stories, less word puzzles.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
nope
Any additional comments?
Interesting, but fell short of my expectations...needed more points of attack than simply giving a bunch of puzzles to tackle.
