Riveting, unable to put down binge worthy

let me tell you this author knows how to pick the best narrators to bring her epic, riveting, binge-worthy story to life. You will listen to this story and swear there are four to five different narrators.. The writing is impeccable. there are twists and turns to the story that are unpredictable. and I love that she takes the quintessential dichotomy of Angels versus demon and flips it on its head of who is good and who is evil. Absolutely well done!!

The content was a great overview. I gave more information about the orishas and various African diasporic practitioners. My biggest critique which almost had me delete this audiobook after the first 5 to 10 minutes was the narration. The narration was horrible, pronunciation was despicable. she could have found a wealth of narrators who would have more appropriately pronounced the names of the orishas. it shows that there was very little consideration for that religion itself. I honestly was disgusted every time I heard this man pronounce the name of anoresha. at times I couldn't even figure out who he was talking about. they're a West African narrators all on audible that someone could have chosen. do better. be more thoughtful

I tried starting this audiobook multiple times. and I just couldn't get past The first several chapters. it is a very superficial book that appears to be written for adolescents. The dialogue between the two main characters are immature and petty.

captivating storytelling

first, I love the way in which the story was narrated with different voice actors. and made the book really come alive. The plot was well thought out. and laid out. The drama and the dilemma that each character faced was both intriguing and relatable. The layering of both the Christian and African mysticism and religion was well done. I can't wait to listen to the next book in the series.

it was loving, tender and not cliché

as a superhero, sci fi afficionado I enjoyed listening to this, my first lesbian superhero novel. not cliché. I would have preferred. narration was good but it would have gone A much longer way to have a narrator Who could voice Xochil With proper pronunciation of spanish/ indigenous mexican words. An age where representation is important.This would have gone a long way for this story period all the wise it was a great story.

the African diaspora is rich with tales of religion and magic untold

The storyline was awesome and the telling of it was phenomenal. Rich with the images of a history that is critical to the black experience in America that is never told and that is the history of the Haitian revolution. and the effects of that is still felt today. also wonderful how it brings forth the richness of African diaspora religion and how hoodoo and voodoo is part of our history. these stories must continue to be told to remove the shackles of colonialism from us all

phenomenal conclusion to a great trilogy

Cynthia, Erivo was the Best choice to narrate this story. I'm glad this will be turned into a movie. I can't wait. Tomi Is a phenomenal writer.
