I like the tropes, but there were absolutely no redeeming qualities in either of the main characters. The female character is stupid. The male character is a spoiled toddler. He verbally and physically abuses the FMC..yet she never reports it to anyone. The other ball players didn’t report it either. She could have had the guy arrested and sued the team. But nope, just a spineless moron. Poorly written and it sounded like the narrator is a robot reading an instruction manual half the time, screeching the other half. Overall just awful.

This is probably the dumbest books I’ve ever listened to. I don’t even know where to start. It’s just a ridiculous dumpster fire in every way. I can’t see myself listening to any other books from this author again.

Silly

If I could use one word to describe this book it would be “silly.” I listened to the whole book, hoping for something a little deeper I guess. It was just silly.

I can’t get through it.

I really wanted to like this book but I can’t get over the female protagonist. She is a nit-picky, whiney Karen who would drive any man nuts. No wonder she has no friends. She constantly complains about the generosity the male lead character is showing her. The male narrator is awful. His pronunciation of words and cadence is lacking. He sounds like he’s narrating an instruction manual. Disappointing.

The Hero is a moron

I’m an hour away from finishing the second book and I have to say, for a hero, he’s a complete idiot. Everything bad that happens to the heroine is his fault and then he gets mad at her because of his mistakes. Then she just forgives him for it. He needs a good punch in the face.

Decent Story

I like the story and the female narration was good. The male narrator’s voice, cadence, accent or whatever would be more suited for M/M romance. Maybe exaggerated west coast accent? And I live in California. It was just off for a super masculine, alpha male character in my opinion.

Anti-Romance with lots of triggers. Beware.

I gave it three stars for the simple fact that it kept me invested enough to find out what happened in the end. The performances were good. The story, not so much.
My issues:
1. This is not a romance. This is a dark, violent and suspenseful s&m book. There is sex, but no lovemaking. And even though Zade said he loved Addy, he didn’t love her. You don’t almost kill someone every time you have sex and call it love. The H was supposed to be some anti-hero, killing the bad guys for sex slavery, but he pretty much did the same thing to the h. The book is full of contradictions.
2. There was too much going on in this series and the fact that it was straight out of the QAnon tinfoil hat craziness was a turn off for me. Shadow governments and all that nonsense. It was dumb.
3. I’m all for dark romance, but this isn’t that. Zade is a sadist and Addy is a masocist. There isn’t just Dubcon in here, there is rape. And there is even violent rape and not just from the H. Human trafficking trope with the h being gang raped and brutally violated by men and sharp objects on multiple occasions.

Super fun story. It was quirky, light and sweet. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still an adult romance but it’s not built on sex. It’s just a really cute story.
