Historia
This is a darkly hilarious coming-of-age novel and a richly plotted suspense tale told through the distinctive voice of its heroine, Blue van Meer. After a childhood spent moving from one academic outpost to another with her father, Blue is clever and possessed of a vast lexicon of knowledge. But when a drowning and the shocking death of a teacher lead to a confluence of mysteries, Blue is left to make sense of it all with only her gimlet-eyed instincts and cultural references to guide - or misguide - her.

Rarely have I disliked the semblance of a story this much…
Revisado: 10-01-24
I made it to page 100, and no plot had even begun. It was immersion in teen rambling, albeit an educated, articulate version of teen rambling. Even so, it was random and disjointed to a painful point. I gave away the book, and discontinued the audio supplement. Bye, Felicia, bye.

Historia
An extraordinary debut novel of love that survives the fires of hell and transcends the boundaries of time. The narrator of The Gargoyle is a very contemporary cynic, physically beautiful and sexually adept, who dwells in the moral vacuum that is modern life. As the book opens, he is driving along a dark road when he is distracted by what seems to be a flight of arrows.

Assigned in book club; not finishing
Revisado: 11-12-23
I didn’t quite make it to chapter three, but I am stopping here. This is way too raw, lewd and crude for me. I’m sorry I spent an Audible credit on it.

Historia
When Marley McKinney's aging cousin, Jimmy, is hospitalized with pneumonia, she agrees to help run his pancake house while he recovers. With its rustic interior and syrupy scent, the Flip Side Pancake House is just as she pictured it - and the surly chef is a wizard with crêpes. Marley expects to spend a leisurely week or two in Wildwood Cove, the quaint, coastal community where she used to spend her summers, but then Cousin Jimmy is found murdered, sprawled on the rocks beneath a nearby cliff.

Looking forward to the next book in the series. Characters were developed just enough to foster engagement. Kudos!
