I absolutely loved Mindfulness in Plain English, so I wanted to read this book as well. I bought it years ago and tried to read it several times, but I never got very far. I don't know why. When I saw it here, I decided to listen instead, and I'm so glad I did.

Bhante Gunaratana speaks very plainly and with admiral precision. If you're unfamiliar with the Eightfold Path, you'll have no trouble understanding each step. If you are familiar but maybe not an expert (this is where I find myself), you'll certainly find new and deeper ways to look at each step, and your own life. Nearly every question I had while listening, the author answered within a few paragraphs. He left little unexamined, especially when it was something that could confuse someone who is used to thinking wrongly (for the lack of a better term) about the topic.

I will be going through this recording again, with my physical book, highlighter, and notebook close at hand. And I'm sure I'll return to it many times in the future.

A good overview of the origins, history, and influence of Tiantai Buddhism, but with no practical information. LOTS of repetition of the main points. The “virtual voice” was less irritating than expected.
