Historia
In the same engaging style that has endeared him to listeners of Mindfulness in Plain English, Bhante Gunaratana delves deeply into each step of the Buddha's most profound teaching on bringing an end to suffering: the noble eightfold path. With generous and specific advice, Eight Mindful Steps to Happiness offers skillful ways to handle anger, to find right livelihood, and to cultivate loving-friendliness in relationships with parents, children, and partners, as well as tools to overcome all the mental hindrances that prevent happiness.

I absolutely loved Mindfulness in Plain English, so I wanted to read this book as well. I bought it years ago and tried to read it several times, but I never got very far. I don't know why. When I saw it here, I decided to listen instead, and I'm so glad I did.
Bhante Gunaratana speaks very plainly and with admiral precision. If you're unfamiliar with the Eightfold Path, you'll have no trouble understanding each step. If you are familiar but maybe not an expert (this is where I find myself), you'll certainly find new and deeper ways to look at each step, and your own life. Nearly every question I had while listening, the author answered within a few paragraphs. He left little unexamined, especially when it was something that could confuse someone who is used to thinking wrongly (for the lack of a better term) about the topic.
I will be going through this recording again, with my physical book, highlighter, and notebook close at hand. And I'm sure I'll return to it many times in the future.

Historia
All Buddhist paths lead to enlightenment—but Tiantai is the master key. Some schools focus on meditation. Others emphasize devotion or philosophical inquiry. Tiantai Buddhism unites them all into a single, structured system—a tradition so comprehensive that it explains why every teaching exists, how they relate, and how they lead to awakening. If you’ve ever wondered how Zen, Pure Land, and the Lotus Sutra connect, Tiantai holds the answers. How can a single moment of thought contain an entire universe? Why does Tiantai teach that the Buddha never left the world? What is the Threefold...

Informative overview

A good overview of the origins, history, and influence of Tiantai Buddhism, but with no practical information. LOTS of repetition of the main points. The “virtual voice” was less irritating than expected.
