Historia
Silo 42 has a secret. There are 50 Silos in total. None know the others exist. They live in isolation, under the illusion they are the only humans still alive on Earth, protected by their sophisticated underground micro-universe for centuries, while they wait for the harsh outside conditions and aftermath of the Great War to subside. However, life in Silo 42 is more sustainable than the others. Energy resources have been updated. Creativity, freedom, and transparency have created the conditions for its people to thrive. All positive indicators for Silo health. But that was never the true ...

Good story- read print version
Revisado: 04-22-25
Virtual voice narration hard to take. I’ve heard worse narrations, but this is definitely down there on the bottom. Takes away from the story. Will not recommend the audio version of this one for that reason.
Refreshing take in the series. What is possible when potential isn’t crushed.

Harvey Fierstein’s legendary career has transported him from community theater in Brooklyn, to the lights of Broadway, to the absurd excesses of Hollywood and back. He’s received accolades and awards for acting in and/or writing an incredible string of hit plays, films, and TV shows.

Sad when it ended.
Beautifully written and performed, but what else would you expect from Mr. Fierstein?
His caramel voice in your ears recounting his joy and pain, challenges and successes, feels like a gift of trust from a good friend you didn’t realize held so much too close for so long.

Re-listen series
Revisado: 12-29-23
This is my go to series. In print I’d have to have multiple copies as I would wear them to dust. The depth of characters and world building is so full with pathos, humor, and truth. People are complex, with differing levels of understanding and so are machine intelligence constructs. A person does not have to be fully organic to qualify as a person, and to see Murderbot struggle with that while keeping its humans and others safe from stupid decisions leading to death is moving, hilarious, and fun!
As the series progresses, introducing new characters, you don’t find you’re missing the original favorite crew until they pop in again, because the story is so dang good. The world is grounded so well.
Kevin R. Free IS the voice of Murderbot.
When I can’t sleep or in challenging times, Murderbot is in my ears. This serial is my Sanctuary Moon.

Never heard of the Yellow Berets before now. What amazing strides in science and medicine were achieved for the greater good of the public health.
This makes a strong argument for national service and collaboration over privatization.
This story left me sad, but hopeful. Imagine what can be conquered by creating the same environment and culture to work now.

Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

I'll roll with Murderbot till the wheels fall off
Revisado: 02-10-19
I was looking for something to keep me company after completing a satisfying run of Scalzi, Taylor, and Novik. This was in suggestions for me and I was intrigued, though it was only a few hours long. I didn't know I'd be re-listening so much. Thank goodness it's digital, or I'd have worn the grooves out on it.
I love discovering another author for myself, and Martha Wells was right there with a fresh take and a great story!
Murderbot has recently freed itself of corporate control, and just wants to be left alone, but it can't let on that it's free. It just wants to watch a ton of media and figure things out for itself, but it's been sent on another job with pesky humans who usually have to be saved from bad, and usually fatal, decisions. Except, this crew is different. They're actually intelligent, and they've never worked with a SecUnit before, especially not one that is shy with humans and hasn't gotten a handle on its poker face, yet. A simple survey job takes a dangerous turn and Murderbot has to save humans again. Humans it's becoming fond of. Well, not all of them, but it still can't help wanting to save them, and maybe that's just written in its code, anyway...? Murderbot has a ton of heart even if that's not one of its organic parts.
Another strong point in this series' favor is the narrator, Kevin R. Free. He is the voice of Murderbot. If Peter Cullen is your Optimus Prime, Kevin R. Free my Murderbot. I'll be looking for more titles with him.

Historia
When 15-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing, not even a smear of blood, to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

Decent Teen Story, meh Narration
Revisado: 02-12-11
I didn't have time to read the print version, so I used a credit on this.
The story is good and aimed at the teen reader, but the narration fell short enough to only get 2 stars. As another reviewer put it, the story is read and not performed. If that doesn't bug, I'd go for it. I've recently been spoiled with some absolutely excellent narration and this one suffered a jarring lack of delivery style. I don't know if that was intentional, or if the narrator just needs to grow and develop as an artist. The voice itself, was pleasant but at the bottom of the reader's register, allowing little room for inflection. The accents were affected and off and better not attempted. Almost every sentence ended on that 'down' note related to just reading aloud. This said, I believe the narrator shows promise with vocal training and experience. I'd like to hear from this narrator down the road, but right now, it's making the book difficult to finish (I'm in the second half of the download and struggling).

Excellent!
Revisado: 04-11-07
Absolutely the best fiction written on the Battle of Thermopylae. Beautifully performed narration by Derek Jacobi.
I requested this audiobook a year ago, and finally, with the release of 300, we got it.
300, while a fun popcorn movie, and equally fun graphic novel, does not compare to the thrilling, well researched and most historically accurate account of what occured at the Hot Gates.
If you want politics, intrigue, romance and action, mesmerizingly narrated, you will find it here.

A Goldmine
Revisado: 10-19-06
I found this book a delightful read. My favorite part- and it's not easy to choose, was the hilariously informative section on how to be a good guest. Make no mistake, the content is not just great satire, but an actual handbook on how to give a successful party. The included pdf files of the recipes mentioned are the icing on the cake.
Ms. Sedaris gives useful tips I have never heard or seen anywhere else. Her narration is top notch and a treat in itself. I can't wait for her next effort!
This is the book you will give for the Holidays.

I gave this show a try as a new mac user, and have found a program that is entertaining and informative. I recommend not only listening to the show, but you must also check out the website. I have gotten more help from the lovely people in the forums of YML, than from my own MUG group's site! What a lovely intro to the world of mac!
