Historia
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

Historia
You were on your way home when you died. It was a car accident. Nothing particularly remarkable, but fatal nonetheless. You left behind a wife and two children. It was a painless death. The EMTs tried their best to save you, but to no avail. Your body was so utterly shattered you were better off, trust me. And that’s when you met me." A short story about the universe.

Have to say, just loved it
Revisado: 03-08-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I would. So rich in a spiritual way, an intellectual way, and a thrilling way. Buddha, Joe Campbell, Carl Jung...they'd like this one I think.
What other book might you compare The Egg to and why?
I don't know, it's just a great little story whose time had hatched...that's what I'd say.

After successfully - but bloodily - dismantling a complicated hostage situation at a bank in the suburbs of Stockholm, Detective Paul Hjelm is faced with the requisite investigation by Internal Affairs. It is a potentially career-ending inquiry, but he is plucked out of it by the National Criminal Police commissioner, who drops him into an elite task force of officers assembled from across the country to find an elusive killer with a sophisticated modus operandi and even more sophisticated tastes.

Gritty and intriguing, characters with depth
Revisado: 03-08-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Well, I with the title and the some of the MO tied a bit tighter to the psychology of the crimes and to its perpetrator.
If you’ve listened to books by Arne Dahl and Tiina Nunnally (translator) before, how does this one compare?
Was my fist. Love the narration. Though I wish the reader hadn't "put on" a female voice for the female characters. Cheapens and disctounts those characters a bit. And I really don't think I need the false woman's tone. Don't think it ultimately helps as much as producers seem to think it does. This is more a critique of the producer than it is of the narrator.
Have you listened to any of John Lee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Again, my first.
Did Misterioso inspire you to do anything?
Listen to jazz? Play darts? Be a cop? No. It inspired me to watch the show and compare. For me, the TV adaptation focused more on plot points and less on character, mood or situation. So, none of the magic was there for me on the show. The show was empty, utterly, while the book was rich and full.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Gritty mystery wrapped in a poem, dipped in murder
Revisado: 03-08-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, if you like mystery and true crime, this delivers on the first and does not stray from the second.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Girl on the Train?
Being utterly lost in the mystery early on but feeling sure I was in good hands. Also, the palpable tension of the third act. And how the story lured me down so many deliciously wrong paths.
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but I liked them. It's a tricky one being that there are so many female characters. The subtle differences came across, though I do wish the women's voices could have been a bit more distinct (the time references and chapter titles are not as grounding in an audio book as they are in a written one). The point of view of the women characters, however, was crystal clear and was utterly in sync with the writer's intentions (something I realized especially once we got to the end). The female narrator put on a male voice...I don't usually like the putting on of the other sex voice, I generally feel like it reduces the character and their perspective a bit...but it really wasn't too distracting in this book, probably because it's the women characters who drive this story.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
What happens to women who surround themselves with so many abusive men.

Historia
Since its release in 1949, The Hero with a Thousand Faces has influenced millions of readers by combining the insights of modern psychology with Joseph Campbell's revolutionary understanding of comparative mythology. In this book, Campbell outlines the Hero's Journey, a universal motif of adventure and transformation that runs through virtually all of the world's mythic traditions. He also explores the Cosmogonic Cycle, the mythic pattern of world creation and destruction.

Very good if hungry for more Campbell
Revisado: 11-03-16
Where does The Hero with a Thousand Faces rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is an earlier work of Campbell, but not at all where I would start. Start with The Power of Myth and The Wisdom of Joseph Campbell and hear Campbell in his own voice. Much clearer and much greater impact. They are much more accessible, and once hear Campbell in his own voice you'll much more easily be able to access his more scholarly works and you'll also be more forgiving of the passionless, reading of Arthur Morey. The reader was a real miss on this one. But the deeper exploration on myth is fantastic.

Historia
Nothing is as it was. Old enemies embrace. The dark staging grounds of the Cold War, whose shadows barely obscured the endless games of espionage, are flooded with light; the rules are rewritten, the stakes changed, the future unfathomable. John le Carre seized this momentous turning point in history to give us the most disturbing experience we have yet had of the frail and brutal world of spydom. The man called Ned speaks to us. All his adult life he has been in British Intelligence - the Circus - a loyal, shrewd, wily officer of the Cold War....

Is there anything you would change about this book?
This one is really good but not as a stand alone, the short story format of this book is quite different than the others, but if you're already in love with Smiley's world...it's an extra dollop of whip cream on top to indulge in. Jayston is truly gifted and so consistent throughout all the books.
