Historia
Over 12,000 helicopters were used in the Vietnam War, which is why it became known as "The Helicopter War". Almost half of the helicopters, 5,086, were lost. This memoir describes first-hand the harrowing experiences of helicopter pilots and crews in combat operations, from the far South to the DMZ, including the infamous Ashau Valley, Hamburger Hill, LZ Airborne, and others. 19 Minutes to Live illustrates the incredible courage and determination of helicopter pilots and crews supporting those heroes that carried a rucksack and a rifle in Vietnam.

Excellent book on Cobra action in Viet Nam
Revisado: 03-14-24
I have read/listened to many Viet Nam combat stories and I really enjoyed 19 Minutes to Live. The best parts are where the author tells his story. These are much better than those told by his fellow aviators.
The narration is very good with the acronyms pronounced correctly (!) - which does not always happen with narrators.
While I wont recant the story here, I do recommend this book to rotary wing enthusiasts.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Inspired me to care less
Revisado: 03-04-24
While nothing in this book is ground breaking, it did inspire me to be bothered less by all those things that really don't matter. I work in what can be considered a hostile, critical, and highly competitive environment where one of my bosses is arrogant and self important. After listening to the book, I smirked at his rant and went home not giving a rusty f#@k.
Interesting read overall and well performed.

Historia
The Talmud says: “If someone comes to kill you, rise up and kill him first.” This instinct to take every measure, even the most aggressive, to defend the Jewish people is hardwired into Israel’s DNA. From the very beginning of its statehood in 1948, protecting the nation from harm has been the responsibility of its intelligence community and armed services, and there is one weapon in their vast arsenal that they have relied upon to thwart the most serious threats: Targeted assassinations have been used countless times, on enemies large and small....

Fascinating exploration of Israeli Intelligence
Revisado: 10-14-23
I was always under the impression that the Mossad was the absolute elite among all intelligence agencies. This book had me questioning that assumption.
This is a very deep look at Mossad and Shin Bet operations - both successful and unsuccessful. As an American, I got the impression that the author was quick to point out Mossad and Shin Bet failings. I suspect if a light was shone and KGB, CIA or MI6, the same could be said.
I learned a lot about the Israeli mind set and the situation in the Middle East. I have nothing but the utmost respect for the IDF and Israeli intelligence now. They are in a very difficult position that the average US citizen simply does not know or understand.
The narration is excellent - Rob Shapiro should do more military books.
If you are interested in intelligence operations or the conflict in the Middle East, this is an eye opening and excellent listen.

Disenting review
Revisado: 08-19-23
I won't recant the story since the other reviews do a good job of that.
I must say that the story started out strong and had my attention. The early AI training was interesting and seemed plausible. I could easily see where nations and the various groups would materially disagree. But Brazil as a Superpower? Sorry, not buying it.
I thought the author made too many movie and TV references. Once or twice - OK. But I saw them coming. And even though I am a huge Star Trek and Simpsons fan, enough is enough.
The last quarter of the book become monotonous: predictable events and some of the action dragging on.
Conceptually very interesting. Yet, I found some of the content juvenile at times and hoping for a more sophisticated approach to sentient AI exploring the galaxy. I won't be listening to more in the series.

It’s 2037, and Alex is one more disobeyed order away from kissing his naval career goodbye. He used to be high speed, the kind of officer on the fast track to submarine command. Then he threw it all away trying to save a few civilian lives from his glory hungry commanding officer.

US Navy performs poorly in the future!
Revisado: 06-08-23
I was very surprised to hear a military novel narrated by someone who sound like John Mulaney (comic). For those unfamiliar with Mulaney, he sounds like a high boy who hasn't started shaving yet. Sorry, but the narration didn't work for me. Good performance but the voice was a disconnect
I was very surprised and disappointed that the US Navy apparently will have inept Submarine commanders, and at least 1 Admiral that will collapse under pressure while the female officers in the various roles will all perform flawlessly. Meanwhile the French and Indian Navies will kick our asses.
Too much estrogen in this one and what I took as a weak US Navy did not have me captivated. I found that I had to force myself to listen and get through the book. I won't be continuing on with other books in the series.

Alien Zombie Apocalypse
Revisado: 04-14-23
Bottom line: I had to stop listening about halfway through. My listening time is while I commute to and from work and I found that I had force myself to listen to the endless gore. Not exactly how I want to start and end my day.
While the character development is quite good, the details on the alien infestation was told over and over again. I got to the point where there was seemingly no hope and it's time to give up. You just can't kill the damn things so what is the point of listening any further? To hear about how each character dies a horrible death? I'll pass.
The narration was great - but not the story.

Can't get past the narration
Revisado: 02-13-23
The narrator as a very odd cadence as well as syllable emphasis - which I could not get past and found both annoying and distracting.
The concept covered are right out of Psych 201 class. Sorry, but I learned nothing . If you have taken any Psych courses or just understand the basics of human communication methods, I suggest that you pass on this.

After touring the rural areas of Panga, Sibling Dex (a Tea Monk of some renown) and Mosscap (a robot sent on a quest to determine what humanity really needs) turn their attention to the villages and cities of the little moon they call home. They hope to find the answers they seek, while making new friends, learning new concepts, and experiencing the entropic nature of the universe. Becky Chambers's new series continues to ask: in a world where people have what they want, does having more even matter?

Great narration of weak story
Revisado: 12-24-22
I had great hopes for this work based on the reviews. But I found that I had to force myself to finish and not bail out.
The narration is very well done and effective. The premise was original and could have been ground breaking. But instead I found that the robot was too childlike, too naive and was too Hallmark Channel for my taste.
Some technical items were distracting: If the robot was waterproof, how could it have cobwebs in its access panel?
Yes, the question at hand was interesting, but mechanization is non existent - using a wagon to pull all their belongings? Yet, robots are now sentient beings which shows very, very advanced technology. Sorry, I don't get it.
I'm not understanding the need to weave in a gay encounter. While mildly humorous with the robots questions, I found it unnecessary in light of question that Moscap poses to mankind.
I'm a Sci Fi fan but this did not impress..

Disappointing
Revisado: 09-03-22
I really wanted to love Space: 1969. All the components were there to make this sound like a very interesting comedy.
The Nixon character was very well done and was certainly my favorite. Nancy was obnoxious and grating. I suspect that anyone who was born past 1965 (or not a 60's history buff) would not understand the dozens of political references or ads of the times.
While well engineered and performed, the story was just plain stupid - and yes, I realize this was a comedy and not an alternative history documentary.
Overall, great potential but not very funny to me.

Historia
On his second combat tour, Nick Brokhausen served in Recon Team Habu, CCN. This unit was part of MACV-SOG (Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group), or Studies and Observations Group as it was innocuously called. The small recon companies that were the center of its activities conducted some of the most dangerous missions of the war, infiltrating areas controlled by the North Vietnamese in Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. The companies never exceeded more than 30 Americans, yet they were the best source for the enemy's disposition.

Captivating and entertaining
Revisado: 05-06-22
I have read many first person accounts from WWII to present. I would not necessarlly refer to any as "entertaining". Yet this book was while sharing what the SF teams dealt with during missions as well as during "I&I" times. The antics and insults were indeed entertaining to say the least.
I walked away with the utmost respect for these soldiers and those who fought beside them. I plan on listening Brokhausen's other works next. Highly reccomended to both SF and Vietnam confilict readers.
