This story is ok, not great but not crappy either. The virtual voice intruded into my enjoyment of the story. I’ll probably wait to see if I want to continue on with the story.

Easy listen light mystery/romance. Light sex and swearing, just a warning for those who are offended easily.
This is western set in the 1870's. Reviewers should keep that in mind when commenting on H & h not behaving as modern people would act. Women were often not let run their own financial affairs, did what their male relatives told them to do. And believed the local quack, uh doctor, when he makes a bad diagnosis. I mention these things because so many reviewers use modern behavior as their yard stick for measuring people in fiction set in the past.
Hope realizes someone is poisoning her, she has to lie to her relatives to get into the town and meet up with Micah to ask for his help. They were attracted to each other before he was accused of murdering her father so she trusts him. She loves her family but doesn't know who to trust. She really wants to believe that the people in her home love her, but knows that someone is trying to kill her and she's rich which means that there is motivation.
Hope and Micah marry, get to know each other and each others family. Solve the mystery and live happily ever after.

This was an easy light listen. Sometimes that's exactly what I need and want.
Some reviewers found the story slow, I did not. The time it took for their relationship to grow was a nice change. Frankly, the meet, have sex, and marry in two weeks time stories are just a bit too common. But, sometimes they work for me too. Yes, I like the fast and slow romances, the sexy and chaste romances. They all have their place in my life.
M and E meet and become friends, and fall in love. They each have their own reasons for not wanting to marry. M's reason is his father's supposed madness and E's is her independence. E's nasty cousins and their money demands and other crazy behavior are entertaining additions to the story. Probably not realistic, but this is fiction so almost anything goes.
I also found the narrator's voice to work fine for this story. Bonus for this entertaining and light romance. I have never read/listened to any of this author's work before, but I'll check out some of her other books.
