Historia
It’s easy to be yourself when who and what you are is in vogue. But growing up Black and gay in America has never been easy. Before Billy Porter was slaying red carpets and giving an iconic performance in the celebrated TV show Pose; before he was the Tony Award-winning star of Broadway’s Kinky Boots; and before he was an acclaimed recording artist, actor, playwright, and all-around diva, Porter was a young boy who didn’t fit in.

Such a great memoir
Revisado: 06-06-24
I picked up Unprotected by @theebillyporter last month for my audible credit I still had to use. I had never even known Billy had written his own book until it popped up on my search. I always loved Billy Porter’s role on Pose and knew I had to give this one a shot.
I love listening to biographies especially when they are read by the author themselves, in my opinion it just adds something extra to the book. Billy’s reading of his own story was no exception. My heart broke quite a few times listening to this. Another surprise to me was also how “white” broadway used to be way back in the 80’s and even till the late 90’s, luckily that is all changing now.
Honestly Billy was nothing but his true self in this book. I 100% recommend this book as a must read (mostly listen, if that’s your thing) for 2024!

One of my Favs!
Revisado: 05-15-24
I might be a few years late to the party but this book was E V E R Y T H I N G and more!
I was not able to put this book down and literally finished it within a day. This book made me feel all the feelings and then also cry about them too! This book constantly kept me wondering will they or won’t they end up together in the end and there were moments where I just rolled my eyes and thought what else is gonna keep them apart?
For the anniversary edition, we do get Whiskey’s side of the story, but in all honesty I could have done without that part of the book.

Historia
No new people: that's Annie Mercer's vow. It's bad enough that her boss sabotaged her chemistry career and her best friend tried to cure her with crystals. But after her fiancé, Jon, asks for space while he's gallivanting around Paris, Annie decides she needs space too - from everyone. Yet when Harper moves in next door, Annie can't help but train a watchful eye on the glamorous but fragile young woman. And if keeping Harper safe requires teaming up with Mo, a maddeningly optimistic amateur detective, who is she to mind her own business?

Fun read
Revisado: 03-04-20
I saw this book pop up here and there on instagram and then also noticed it was on Kindle Unlimited as well with the audio feature. I love quick & fun stories like these. The book is written mostly in letter/texting style, which I love.
I loved the main character Annie, who in many ways had a dry humor and was a bit of loner, I think this is why I related to her so much. Life throws Annie a curveball and she has to start a “new” life. Along the way she meets new friends and builds great friendships, but there is also Jon, her fiancé, who moved to France...overall the story was great!
Oh and the story does end well in my opinion!
