Historia
Number-one New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon has captivated millions with her critically acclaimed Outlander novels, the inspiration for the Starz original series. From the moment Claire Randall stepped through a standing stone circle and was thrown back in time to the year 1743 - and into a world that threatens life, limb, loyalty, heart, soul, and everything else Claire has - fans have been hungry to know everything about this world and its inhabitants, particularly a Scottish soldier named Jamie Fraser.

Compelling.

This is one of the more compelling and intriguingly human. Highly recommended to anyone interested in the descriptions of ante and post civil war experience that could be as true in any era.

Historia
In 1935, the Spokane police regularly extorted sex, food, and money from the reluctant hobos (many of them displaced farmers who had fled the midwestern dust bowls), robbed dairies, and engaged in all manner of nefarious crimes, including murder. This history was suppressed until 1989, when former logger, Vietnam vet, and Spokane cop Tony Bamonte discovered a strange 1955 deathbed confession while researching a thesis on local law enforcement history.

Thought Provoking and Gritty Reality
Revisado: 03-16-24
As usual Tim Eagan masterfully tells a story that otherwise might never have reached further than the brief newscasts parts of the story created. A deep look into human behaviors- some horrid, others the power of conscience eventually winning out to illuminate the truth. I hope the Sheriff involved was able to move on to find some joy and peace in his later years.

Historia
The Roaring Twenties—the Jazz Age—has been characterized as a time of Gatsby frivolity. But it was also the height of the uniquely American hate group, the Ku Klux Klan. Their domain was not the old Confederacy, but the Heartland and the West. They hated Blacks, Jews, Catholics and immigrants in equal measure, and took radical steps to keep these people from the American promise. And the man who set in motion their takeover of great swaths of America was a charismatic charlatan named D.C. Stephenson.

Revisado: 11-11-23
Being born at the start of the baby boom, this revealing book about the festering hatred and the impact on so many is eye opening. Knowing history helps to see the continuum to what is evident today. Well researched and woven into material easily listened to with interest

Excellent!
Revisado: 06-23-18
The overall information was well organized into chapters that covered a timeframe and then followed by separate chapters that filled in more specific times during that tine period. this helped immensely in understanding. The performance was excellent utilizing multiple voices and many primary source materials. The first part seemed to have more background noises (drums, ocean sounds, etc.) that for me were distracting and at times made the speaker less audible. This seemed to lessen as the book moved forward. (or I adapted my listening?) As the descendant of 1840s Anglo Irish farmers (didn’t know that terminology before this book) it cleared up many questions and created as many more about my heritage. (how and when exactly did my ancestors arrive in Ireland? were they caught up in violence over the generations? where was the location of the land they farmed? ). I also understand better “the troubles” and see the tangled web of religious and sectarian forces. The broader historical settings of the different time periods, were also helpful to understand the world conflicts and world view of various tines. The book appears to. e presented in a neutral factual viewpoint, presenting various examples of the many forces and factions involved.
