Short story from an amazing series.

Liked that it’s just another explanation of something that happened in the main series. Good on its own but provides an answer for fans.

Historia
The Winter Queen of Faerie has manipulated Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden into accepting a case to solve a murder and stop a war between the courts of Summer and Winter that could have literally earth shattering consequences. His own soul is up for grabs. Dresden must dig deep to discover that at time a willingness to accept a little help from your friends, be they a cub pack of werewolves, old loves in sheep's clothing, or a battalion of pizza loving dewdrop fairies, is a very good thing.

All of it!

I have the whole series, I’ve read them each at least four times. I usually put them on before bed or if I can’t sleep nowadays because I can put it on and I recognize what part of the story it is, it’s comforting and soothing. Author is one of my favorite authors and I hope he keeps coming out with more chapters in the Dresden Files read by the same narrator.

Historia
Not every danger comes in the form of a mega-threat like a Titan. Some predators are a lot cozier...more personal. When one such creature threatens an independent tutor, Harry Dresden must shake off the blood and dirt of his most recent battles and rise to the occasion, even when it turns out that the new predator is far more dangerous and connected than first appearances would suggest.

The performance
Revisado: 02-09-25
I had a lot of trouble finishing it. Still haven’t. I’ve been listening to the Dresden Files on repeat. I own them all and have for years. Jim Butcher is one of my favorite authors ever but, and I hate saying this, the way he reads sounds like a person reading for an audience for the first time. The pauses inbetween two people’s convo is too long. The way Harry talks the inflections change at strange times like he’s turning pages or remembering to be louder. The inflections are random and surprising. The characters don’t sound like themselves in sound or in manners. He wrote it so he would know but maybe he isn’t communicating it the way he thinks he is. The voice of Bob The Skull is grating on my ears I stopped or fast forwarded it every time after the first few. All the voices are different unfortunately but some are much worse than others. I will probably return it unfinished I can’t get through it and it’s only 3 hours. I was so excited to see a new chapter I bought it without checking the narrator. Still would have bought it but there is a massive difference. I probably won’t buy another book if he reads again. I’m sorry to say but it was that unenjoyable. I know he started his own production company but can he hire the original narrator? That guy did every single one and he mastered the voices. I listen to it every night to fall asleep. Idk if anyone sees this that matters involving future books but I hope it’s a possibility.

Historia
When Angela was young, before she came to realize she had a rare ability, she was a rather ordinary girl. At least, that was what everyone said. But Angela is anything but ordinary. The daughter of a meth addict, she is convinced she was born a freak. Haunted by an abusive childhood, she was forced to become a woman far too soon. And in the process, she became more.

Heavy rape and defilement and degradation of women AWFUL
Revisado: 05-01-24
Sword of Truth series was a fav when I was younger. Terry Goodkind must have rape fantasies no one could write this kind of stuff about women without thinking that way. It is hard to listen to. The words f*cking wh*re, sl*t, little wh*re, tramp, all the cops and men are fighting not to rape the main character in every scene, “fighting male urges”, gang rape by undocumented Mexicans, calling New York a sanctuary state that doesn’t prosecute them. Main character is harassed by every man in the book and raped over 7-8 times, I’m wondering if Goodkind is a MAGA man. She is afraid to speak up and defend herself in front of male cops, DA, guys at bar, any man always knows she should keep her thoughts to herself to stay safe. It makes you want to throw up. It’s worse than cheap smut writings hard to believe this guy had bestsellers years ago and that everyone is saying these books are great fast paced and action packed. Maybe men like then but I lost any respect I had for the author. Not to mention I noticed the same sentences in these as the old SOT novels. Same sayings, same thoughts character has, same unfair treatment of women but way worse I would have been embarrassed to write this stuff down. I wonder if he’s married I can’t imagine his wife could make it through the first half of the book. It’s nauseating and cringey and disgusting. Not even close to reality and really feels like a teenager on his way to being a rapist. Shameful

Like a different series without Richard Ferrone
Revisado: 10-05-23
I have every Davenport book and I’ve grown accustomed to narration by Richard Ferrone. It isn’t even close to the same whats up/o him. Doesn’t sound like Lucas or any other character voice I know so we’ll. I’m so disappointed. Couldn’t get into it at all. I’d buy it again if they make another version with my favorite narrator. I hope he’s ok

Dreadful voices for the narration so harsh and disappointing!
Revisado: 09-02-21
The story was not the best Pendergast. I miss the old ones that first got me so into the authors and the characters like Fever Dream, Relic, The Book of the Dead and others involving Pendergasts brother, most of the titles are amazing. I started about 8 years ago and I’ve looked forward to each book buying them as soon as they came out.
I always enjoyed the same voices from the only narrator I had ever heard reading the Pendergast books. Rene Auburjonois. I know a new narrator had to be selected after Rene passed. William DeMeritt is talented and I’m sure he does a good job on other stories but I don’t think I will ever buy another Pendergast audible version again. He has a young yuppy voice for kids books or something. Every character gets a forceful tone with arrogance and he practically yells in your ears I had to keep changing the volume!
This narrator butchered everyone’s voices and personalities. Coldmoon sounds like he is annoyed all the time and everything he says is angry and silly sounding, Pendergast sounds soft and his voice no longer sounds educated or strong just weak and with this soft strange southern accent that does him no justice. Lastly, Constance…… Constance was this beautiful young woman with otherworldly intelligence and elegance. He turned her into a nagging old fashioned aunt you would go crazy having to listen to. It was HORRIBLE!!!! The absolute worst part of the book. When you listen to the narrator as Constance it makes you hate Constance and hate her voice. You just couldn’t like her the way he makes her sound angry and venomous. I feel so let down. The only way I’ll buy the next one is if they find a more mature elegant voice and someone who interprets the characters better. This narrator cannot be a fan of the series on his own and the readers and fans deserve much better. Please

Revisado: 02-27-17
Reacher books are my favorite. This one I had a lot of trouble listening to. I listen at bedtime often so I fall asleep and the next day I have to find my spot. This book seems to talk about the same stuff so much. I could find diff spots that seemed the same with the same conversations and same people but turned out to be second or third meetings with those people. In other words the book was slow and it was a lot of talking without any real tough guys or real fights besides the end. I prefer more action.
