Historia
Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm. In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks. In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance. Then one morning Devine’s tedious routine is shattered by an anonymous email: She is dead.

Baldacci is booooring.
Revisado: 11-25-24
1. Performance was very good, except the woman sounds like an Ai, or Siri type, telephone operator. Shocking! Not like a person. Startling when she speaks.
2. The story is good and fun, and the progression is good and logical. The characters are okay, but thin. Not much development.
3. Baldacci books are just boring. I want to like them but they are boooring. I like police procedural. these are not that. Just overly dramatic nonsense. And of course everyone is screwing everyone. Which is dull.

Good premise, Good performance, Rediculous story
Revisado: 09-07-24
It is a good idea for a book. But toward the end, I kept screaming in my mind: JUST END!. There has to be a build to climax, and then wrap up, end. It was really painful pushing through the last 2 hours of this audiobook. The adverse events kept coming and coming. So ridiculously unbelievable, improbable and impossible. And then he knew the answer with no support, just guessed right, but he dislocated his arm, and then he crashed his car, and then, and then … And then coincidences upon coincidences. And then everybody is the worst of humanity! And the best of humanity! Ug!

Deep in Empire-dominated space, a machine of unimaginable destructive power is nearing completion. A weapon too terrifying to contemplate . . . and a threat that may be too great to overcome.

Great book, Great series, horrible narrator.
Revisado: 06-07-15
I read the first few books as they came out, and gave them to someone to read. Then a few years later bought them again, and re-read them. And bought the others as they were released.
I love this time in US History, and the stories are great, if maybe a bit repetitive in the re-telling of the prior books.
Eric G Dove does The Brotherhood of War series, and does a great job. Dick Hill is pretty bad. I am not sure if he has a speech impediment, ESL, or if it is something else. He sounds like a drunken version of Yogi Bear impersonating Colonel Klink from Hogan's Heroes. Every statement is emotional and passionate! He describes a bathroom with unbelievable passion. The description of a hat is an incredible experience. No one in these books has any control of their emotions. That does not seem like the military I know. I love these books and am very disappointed with the narration. I will not buy any more of them.

The world is on the brink of disaster. Iran has just conducted its first atomic weapons test. Christian sermon not political thriller!
Revisado: 11-30-11
If I want to listen to someone’s personal religious beliefs, I would go to church, talk to a priest, read the bible, or just talk to someone I trust. I should not have to listen to someone trying to convert me to Christianity and telling me how evil Islam is in a cheap fiction. This book is listed as a political thriller. It is not. Audible should refund those of us who were deceived and bought this book based on that categorization.
In addition, the characters are paper, there is no character development. The reactions of the characters are immature and illogical. The book has a very ‘pre-teen-afternoon special’ quality about it. The story is completely predictable and full of cliché. The author has a tendency to interrupt the story line with some odd fact that has no relevance. The author should purchase a copy of Strunk and White as the book is full of improper usage, e.g. ‘definitive’ instead of ‘definite’.
The author should do more than scratch the surface when researching a book. If you write about a CIA agent, you should have knowledge of how CIA agents operate and think. If you write that Islam is pure evil and the Koran preaches mass murder, you should read the Koran. If you are trying to convert people to Christianity you should have a deeper understanding of Christian beliefs. This book does nothing well.
