Disappointing

The storyline was not completely believable and the characters motives and motivations were inconsistent and therefore not really believable either. I made it to the end, but it was a struggle.

Good storyline and storytelling

this story was definitely more war and strategy story than romance, but I still liked it. it kept me hooked and listening. it could have been tweaked here and there, but it was a good solid series. I enjoyed being in the universe.

Difficult to get through

The storyline in this book was convoluted and a bit nonsensical but the narration compounded the difficulty and made it very hard to get though this book. I'm just one of those unfortunate people who find it difficult not to finish a book. But I'll never get the 6 hours I lost on this book back. the narrator was pretty bad with his Italian and British accents. But the author was just as bad with her weird plot twists, rabbit holes, and dead ends and her interpretation of how a 4year old thinks and speaks. Not her best attempt.

Really loved it

Can't say enough about the characters and how full they were. the story, as horrific as it was, seemed realistic in terms of the character's reactions. The emotions were deep, too. this is one of those books that stays with you long after you complete the epilogue. sadly, I had this book in my library for months but never listened to it. I only bought it because of the reviews. The summary didn't appeal to me all that much. I'm so glad I read them anyway.

Don't let the cover photo fool you

I really loved Edward and Lenore's love story. I think the depth of the emotion and feeling the author was able to convey in the words Nd then underpinned by the narrator was just surprisingly good. Don't get me wrong, the sex scenes were extremely steamy, but I admit that I was so wrapped up in the emotional storyline and story that it took me completely by surprise. great story. she could have left out the sec and the story would have been still 4 stars.

Not for the faint of heart...

The characters were sick and at at time horrific. they did unforgivable things, thought unforgivable things and I thought to give this 1 or 2 stars, but and that's a big but. The author did what she was supposed to with fictional characters. she gave them life and shaped them by their past and by the storyline. In that, I kept listening and was hooked to what they would do next. what would happen next. I usually don't get into this type of explicit sex and BDSM, but the fact that was an actual story and good writing makes it a bit. its definitely a page turner, even if the hero, and I use that word loosely, had almost zero redeeming characteristics. just when I was going to stop listening out of anger at the heroine, she did something unexpected, which kept me reading.

I'm not sure why I like this book or the characters so much. even though the characters seem to have a different dimension when sex is in play vs. real life everyday scenarios. but I really do. I enjoyed this book as much as the original series.

Excellent Narration for an imaginative story

The characters were do carefully crafted and woven throughout this story that it holds you and keeps your attention. the HBO series is good and kept very close to the book but the book is better.

Unique and touching tale

The main male character had very few redeeming characteristics and the female character's description, thoughts and actions seemed at time too severe to be lovable. But the way the author wrote the story and weaved them together made them more lovable as a couple than individually. the author did a great job of describing how his illness made him see the world vs. explaining what happened to him. There was great dialogue amongst the chatacters.

Not your typical romance storyline

I'm not sure how to categorize this one. I think I liked it.the intimate scenes were very explicit. I'm not sure the author explained well enough why this duke was willing and desired to spend tome with his housekeeper. All in all not bad.
