Historia
When a young girl is found dead in the mountains outside Timber Creek, lifelong resident Officer Mattie Cobb and her partner, K-9 police dog Robo, are assigned to the case that has rocked the small Colorado town. With the help of Cole Walker, a local veterinarian and single father, Mattie and Robo must track down the truth before it claims another victim. But the more Mattie investigates, the more she realizes how many secrets her town holds. And the key may be Cole's daughter, who knows more than she's saying.

Colorado police procedural with a K-9 Officer
Revisado: 03-12-23
Engaging characters kick off this first in a series (Timber Creek K-9 mysteries) set in a small mountain town. Storylines include the local veterinarian and his family, as well as the police officers, with K-9 Officer Mattie Cobb and her K-9, Robo, front and center.
No millionaires, billionaires, or famous CEOs mar the story, which is a believable tale of everyday life. Then a corpse is discovered and the secrets start to appear; apparently this small town is not immune to worldly vices.
I listened to this on Audible, rather than reading. I liked the narrator's voice and was able to distinguish the characters.
This is a well crafted mystery and I've already downloaded the second book in the series.

Historia
Kali Māhoe, Hawaiian cultural expert and detective with the Maui Police Department, has been called to a bizarre crime scene. In the recesses of a deep trench on Lana'i Island, a derelict refrigerator has been unearthed. Entombed inside are the skeletal remains of someone buried decades ago. Identification is a challenge. The body is headless, the skull replaced with a chilling adornment: a large, ornately carved wooden pineapple.

Police procedural set in Hawaii
Revisado: 12-02-21
The second book in what I hope will be an ongoing series.
Hawaii is the main character, described not as the Disney paradise tourist brochures advertise but, as the complicated location where cultures met, clashed, and moved on. The point of view is that of a female police detective, so homicide fuels the plot.
Well written and very well narrated.

Historia
Christmas in the charming seaside village of Molena Point, California, has always been a traditional affair - but not this holiday season. Instead of singing carols and climbing into Christmas trees, Joe Grey, feline P.I., is faced with his most difficult case yet - and that's saying a lot for a wily tomcat who for years has been solving crimes the police can't even crack. A stranger lies dead beneath the village Christmas tree, with a little child the only witness to the shooting.

Criminals don't take a holiday for Christmas
Revisado: 10-18-21
There are a lot of holiday celebrations planned but, unknown to Molena Point residents, there are multiple criminals gearing up to take advantage of everyone's Christmas spirit.
Initially the police are called to a murder only to find there is no corpse, although there is a young child smeared with blood. Later there is a home invasion and unsettling photographs are found. Joe, Dulcie, and Kit are in the thick of everything, trying to sort out their observations and assist the police with insider information.
I found this a very satisfactory mystery, number 13 in the series. There are a number of new characters but nearly all the primary characters are home for the holidays.
Susan Boyce is once again the narrator, which pleased me immensely.

Historia
Nestled quietly on the Pacific Coast below San Francisco, Molena Point is a quaint hamlet - not the kind of place an escaped convict would choose for a hideout. But it just happens to be the home of a state's witness who put a thief named Cage Jones behind bars - until he broke out, that is. With danger closing in, the feline detective Joe Grey, his girlfriend Dulcie, and their tattercoat friend Kit must put paws and whiskers together to capture a very nasty criminal before he strikes again.

Three murders and two kidnappings this time out.
Revisado: 10-14-21
More suspense in this twelfth volume of the Joe Grey series but, this time, it's the humans who need help. In addition to Molena Point's detecting cats, some of the feral cats return to throw their paws into the mix, and Rock gets be a hero. Arriving unannounced, Mavity's disreputable brother offends nearly everyone with whom he comes into contact while harboring his own secrets.
This is one of my favorite storylines of the series. This is the second volume narrated by William Dufris, rather than Susan Boyce.

Historia
Joe Grey, Feline P.I., has called Molena Point home since he was a kitten, and he doesn't take well to marauding strangers. Joe even wonders whether the blonde who's moved in next to his human companion Clyde could be a part of the gang - she's been acting pretty suspicious lately. But when the strangers start trapping and caging feral cats it proves too much for Grey. And when one of the gang is murdered, and a second mysterious death comes to light, he has no choice but to try and stop the crimes.

Multiple problems arise and become complicated.
Revisado: 10-12-21
Finding a cat trapped and starving in a humane cage and a dead body is a real downer after a pleasant week of camping but, it's just the start to one of the problems that will plague the residents of Molena Point.
An ex-girlfriend of Clyde shows up, followed by a previous male admirer of Ryan, and Joe Grey, Dulce, and Kit start wondering what is really causing all the turmoil that's brewing.
Before long, the three cats are facing dangers they never expected.
While the change in narrator was jarring after 10 books, William Dufris (1958-2020), was an award winning voice actor and I enjoyed his performance except for his "Joe Grey" interpretation.
I'm a fan of this series and am always surprised how S.R. Murphy ties all the parts together at the end. I believe publication of this series began in the 1990s. Some listeners may note attitudes or comments by characters that are now dated.

Historia
There’s a bad new cat in sleepy little Molena Point: a renegade tom with a penchant for robbery, a scorn for his fellow felines, and a disdain for human laws. And he’s masterminding a crime spree that’s quickly escalating toward murder most foul. Dulcie and Joe Grey both know the score - they’ve seen Azrael in action. But how can they expose the criminal without letting ordinary, untrustworthy humans in on the secret that certain select cats can think - and talk? Cats like them…

Highly enjoyable addition to the Joe Grey Mystery series. Has Clyde found his true love? Will Dulcie be banned from the library? Will Joe remain the top tomcat around town? New characters arrive to interact with the local residents of Molena Point but, who is honest and trustworthy?
All is eventually sorted out with the police, unknowingly, getting assistance from the town's investigating feline duo.

Historia
A big, powerful, gray feline, Joe Grey is perfectly content with his remarkable ability to understand and communicate with humans - especially now that he has company. A mysterious accident similar to the one that enabled him to speak and read has transformed his friend Dulcie as well. The trouble is, the cute tabby female not only hears human words, she believes them. Now she's convinced the man who was jailed for murdering a famous local artist and burning down her studio is innocent - simply because he says so - and she's willing to do whatever it takes to dig up the evidence that will exonerate the accused.

Revisado: 09-16-21
Second in a series, this is a well written double mystery with the focus on Joe Grey and Dulcie, the investigating cats. Set in an imaginary coastal town south of San Francisco and inhabited with average middle class characters, much seems familiar and plausible, making it a satisfying story. The narrator, Susan Boyle, has excellent diction and pacing. It is a pleasure to listen to her.

The beautiful, serene village of Molena Point, California is the type of place where people go to get away from the harsher realities of life - which is what attracted classic film star Patty Rose to buy the village inn and settle down to enjoy her golden years. But as the town gathers to celebrate and honor the beautiful, aging actress with a festival of her old films, Patty is brutally murdered - to the horror and shock of this peaceful burg.
