Acerca de esta escucha

When a young girl is found dead in the mountains outside Timber Creek, lifelong resident Officer Mattie Cobb and her partner, K-9 police dog Robo, are assigned to the case that has rocked the small Colorado town.

With the help of Cole Walker, a local veterinarian and single father, Mattie and Robo must track down the truth before it claims another victim. But the more Mattie investigates, the more she realizes how many secrets her town holds. And the key may be Cole's daughter, who knows more than she's saying. The murder was just the beginning, and if Mattie isn't careful, she and Robo could be next.

Suspenseful and smart, Killing Trail is an explosive debut that will have listeners clamoring for more Mattie and Robo for years to come.

The writing is workmanlike, whodunnit is easy to figure out early on, the characters are all regular people and thus not especially memorable, and the showdown in an abandoned mine was very “Scooby-Doo” — and yet I liked this. It’s probably because there’s not only a strong female lead (a sheriff’s deputy who is a K9 handler) but a number of strong women characters; the knowledge of veterinary work, dog training and law enforcement protocol is spot-on; and there’s a good heart and moral compass guiding everything. Plus a dog is a central focus yet always remains a dog and is not anthropomorphized like in other canine crime books. In short, I respect the author and will follow her to the next book in the series. Bechdel test: Pass. Grade: B+

Good mystery that was concluded. I’m anxious to start the next book and mystery. Love Robo, the dog! I have questions about some police procedures that a layman, like me, even question but I’m trying to just leave my mind open and enjoy the story.
Easy listening of narration. Nice voice.

This is a great book and a wonderful start to a series. All of the characters are incredibly human. I love the very real relationships in this book. I've always hated when a character in a book is antagonistic to the main character for no reason other than to create tension. Contrast that with Brody's antagonism toward Cobb, which has a very real motivation, and abates when Cobb proves herself. I also like the romantic tension building between Cobb and Walker. It's very real, and it contrasts quite heavily with what you see so often in literature where two characters meet and are suddenly head over heels for each other.

Wu's narration is good, but a couple of times, especially toward the end, it became a little hard to follow who exactly was talking. Also, she mispronounced some key words a few times.

I cannot wait to get into the sequel, and I hope this series continues for a long time.

Fantastic!

I must say, the voice talent can make or break an audio book. This one was top notch!

I enjoyed this audiobook, nice group of characters and of course the dog is the best! However, if one of your main characters is a dog and another is a veterinarian, and you going to include veterinary procedures as part of your story, in particular surgery, you might want to do a little more research to get it right. As a veterinary professional for over 20 years, nothing takes you out of a story more than an incorrect description of intubation, surgery, anesthesia etc. I do have to say I’ve seen worse, though.

Enjoyable listen

yet I was most drawn to the narration. Loved listening to the perfect recital in her soothing voice.

Good story, excellent character development

The narrator is great. If I listen to a book and never think about the narrator, that's my idea of a perfect reader. She didn't annoy me once and did a good enough job with the make voices that I never gave it a second thought, so I didn't get distracted from the story.
If you love dogs and mysteries, I think you'll like this book. The protagonist is worth cheering for. I think the author is setting her up with lots of room for character development over the next five books. The other "good guys" are a little one dimensional but very, very likable, and sometimes it's nice to have good guys just be good guys without adding a bunch of angst and existential crises. The author is clearly a dog owner and writes Robo a
