Historia
When Autobiography of a Yogi first appeared in 1946, it was acclaimed as a landmark work in its field. The New York Times hailed it as "a rare account". Newsweek pronounced it "fascinating". The San Francisco Chronicle declared, "Yogananda presents a convincing case for yoga, and those who 'came to scoff' may remain 'to pray." Today it is still one of the most widely read and respected books ever published on the wisdom of the East.

Dated and musty
Revisado: 11-10-19
I think the low point is where the author relates his success in making his sister more physically attractive to her husband through a miracle. A close second is his complaint of traveling for 5 weeks “with only one servant”. Enlightenment ? I didn’t think so.

The text covers the core concepts of what it means to be human - brain function, consciousness, discrimination, memory, sensation, imagination, reasoning, and instinct. The book is published in two volumes, the first containing Chapters I through XVI and the second continuing from XVII to XXVIII.

Less than classy delivery of an old classic

Less than classy delivery of an old classic
Revisado: 03-31-18
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Needs a far more measured and skilled delivery. Narrator sounds rushed, even slurped from a drink on three occasions. Digital chapters end and begin in the middle of sentences, a clear sign this was rushed and given little or no production value
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Not applicable
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Rushed. I honestly thought (and checked to see, multiple times) it was running at fast-forward speed. As mentioned above, he slurps drinks while narrating, for heavens sake. It doesn’t get worse than that
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Classic material of course, but you are probably aware of that by the time you read these reviews
Any additional comments?
Badly rushed production on all levels. Most disappointed.

Historia
In 1913, an unschooled young Indian clerk wrote a letter to G. H. Hardy, begging that preeminent English mathematician's opinion on several ideas he had about numbers. Hardy, realizing the letter was the work of a genius, arranged for Srinivasa Ramanujan to come to England. Thus began one of the most remarkable collaborations ever chronicled.

Not a biography
Revisado: 12-16-16
I was reading well outside my comfort zone, I don't read biographies, hardly ever, but this man sounded interesting. But this is not really a biography, its a drama. And more of the book is about other things, felt like the whole book was "filler"

That was extremely entertaining. Lovecraft is a master storyteller, spins a magnificent yarn, and the narrators brought atmosphere and intelligence to the readings.

Historia
Neuroscientist V. S. Ramachandran is internationally renowned for uncovering answers to the deep and quirky questions of human nature that few scientists have dared to address. His bold insights about the brain are matched only by the stunning simplicity of his experiments - using such low-tech tools such as cotton swabs, glasses of water, and dime-store mirrors.

Mixed bag

First half very good, where he sticks to discussing neuroscience and cognitive neuroscience and case studies. Trails off later in the book as he drifts into philosophical discussion of consciousness. As many others before him, he added nothing to this field.
