Historia
In the opening volume of his acclaimed American Revolution series, Nathaniel Philbrick turns his keen eye to pre-Revolutionary Boston and the spark that ignited the American Revolution. In the aftermath of the Boston Tea Party and the violence at Lexington and Concord, the conflict escalated and skirmishes gave way to outright war in the Battle of Bunker Hill. It was the bloodiest conflict of the revolutionary war, and the point of no return for the rebellious colonists.

Historia
Edmund McGowan is a gifted naturalist whose life’s work is threatened by war. Mary Mott is a widowed innkeeper forced to rely on her own resources for survival. Mary’s 16-year-old son, Terrell, is a young man about to experience his first taste of love. Sprinkling in real-life figures such as James Bowie and Davy Crockett - Harrigan gives a human face to a true American legend. Told from the perspective of the Mexican attackers as well as the American defenders, this New York Times best seller recreates a time and a place where honor and gallant death shaped generations of people.

I’ve visited the Alamo during the reading of this book because I became so interested.
Revisado: 05-28-19
I love historical fiction and this was a true winner in every respect. I also adored George Guidell and he was, as always, magnificent in his performance. It could be argued that reality is stretched by the use of various narrators who magically appear in the thick of the most important historical events surrounding the Battles for Texas independence as portrayed here, but setting that aside, it is always enjoyable to have a front row seat at such goings-on. Character development was excellent, perhaps especially of the fictional characters who formed the nucleus of the story. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
When you listen to this audiobook, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are listening to a story about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement - a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle. Assume nothing. Twisted and deliciously chilling, The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

Slow burner suddenly grabs you
Revisado: 02-08-19
This book focuses on a woman who basically drifted along until falling into a marriage that at first seems glorious and featured a prince, but quickly turns into a nightmare. It comes down to who is in control with plenty of twists along the way to its remarkable conclusion. I also enjoyed the author discussion presented it at the end of the Audible book.

The author is done a magical job of weaving very accurate facts and descriptions of the run up to World War II after prohibition in life for women at the Brooklyn Navy Yard during the war. The protagonist, Anna, it’s fully fleshed out and it fascinating character very realistic issues, thoughts, and relationships.

I absolutely love this book. Grover Gardner is a most astonishing reader.
Revisado: 11-04-17
Historical fiction is my favorite genre and this work surpasses most every other book of this type that I’ve ever read. The author and the reader were a perfect combination, with the plot and storyline perfectly synchronized from start to finish. I got teary in the final scenes which I think was appropriate based on my commitment developed over the course of the novel.

Fabulous book, an intriguing history
Revisado: 10-26-17
My wife enjoyed the book and I wanted to hear Guidall’s voice which I love, but the book carried me away in every regard. The passion and emotions of the people involved were pretrade in a very genuine manner, With suspense derived largely by the middle passage of time. It was interesting in the author’s explanation that much of the details, including the basic plot, were derived from actual historical circumstances. I would suggest readers that they actually start with the author exclamation to increase their appreciation of the job well done.

Totally engaging text and audio production
Revisado: 07-27-17
I have been continually reading audio books for 25 years now, and I can unequivocally state that this is one of the finest books and audio productions I've ever enjoyed. Each character is quite distinct, and the story roars along like the trains that are featured at the center of the tale. Anyone who needs a good mystery with some thrilling action scenes will certainly enjoy this book.
