Historia
Already well-versed in the natural healing properties of herbs and oils, Jennie Pickett longs to become a doctor. But the Oregon frontier of the 1870s doesn't approve of such innovations as women attending medical school. To leave grief and guilt behind, as well as support herself and her challenging young son, Jennie cares for an elderly woman using skills she's developed on her own. When her patient dies, Jennie discovers that her heart has become entangled with the woman's widowed husband, a man many years her senior.

Easy to follow

The book’s main character was a little too emotional for me, I like a little more girth in a story.

Historia
Who is Audrey Hoedemaker? It's a question her sister Maureen has heard more times than she can count, and she doesn't know what the short answer would be. Little sister, troubled teen, backpacker, musical theatre coach, con artist, childcare worker. Murderer. A tragic, traumatic childhood casts a long shadow on the Hoedemaker sisters. Maureen has worked hard to move beyond the violence of the past and build a good, honest life for herself. Audrey, however, just can't seem to do the same, careening from one state of chaos to another.

Did not like the ending
Revisado: 02-10-25
The story itself kinda drug on. It felt like the sisters were unnaturally disconnected in their adult lives and that set the stage for the ending. I didn’t really like it.

Tricky Who Dun It
Revisado: 02-02-25
Being a Colorado native I cringed every time I heard Salida mispronounced.
I liked the voice of Cam but not Willow. The story was whiny but I liked the surprising Who Dun It at the end.

Psycho thriller not so thrilling
Revisado: 10-13-24
I chose this book out of curiosity for AI and not the story line. Very unimpressed. I'll stick with breathing people.
I don't like psycho stories so I gave that a low rating too.

A time travel that came full circle
Revisado: 10-09-24
I like time travel stories. This was the first one ever came full circle that I've read. The ending was great. The story itself was mostly interesting except the part where the federal government decided to be nice to these people after they uncovered some of their mistakes.
The story took a hit because of that.

The story was interesting and easy to follow. I liked that the setting was in the 1600s and the way things were different back then.

Maggie leans against the apple tree, watching her fun-loving husband and darling children as her heart swells with pride. As the joyful party atmosphere disappears into the night, close by, the lifeless body of a young woman is pulled from a river. Slipping upstairs to find the special gift for her adoring husband, Maggie stumbles across something else hidden amongst the dusty boxes of family keepsakes.

Very informative story. I remember as a small child watching the Vietnam Vets come home on tv and all the people booing them as the disembarked off the plane.
The author enlightened me emotionally and mentally as I read her story. Great read!
