This book was amazing! The first book if the series was very slow burn, and only really piqued my attention in the last 10 chapters or so. But Vow had me from the get-go. Jase and Kazi are finally together and stronger than ever... only to be ripped apart. I needed to know what was at stake and how they would overcome the obstacles constantly thrown into their way. I think my only criticism is that some things that came to light were, again, predictable in my opinion. But it didn't stop me from wanting to read and loving the MCs. I read and listened to this via Audible, and the narrators really drove home the emotions on the page. I really enjoy this author and the universe she has created.

There's really no words to describe how good this book was. I should not be surprised as I loved Bardugo's previous Grisha trilogy. I will say, it took me awhile to get into reading the book. Perhaps I was expecting instant action, but there was the need to lay the foundation for the heist which is the main plot. I enjoyed getting to read everyone's POV (what up with Wylan though?) and get to know some of their backstory. Plus the romance... swooning all over the place! I need to go ahead and preorder the next book in the series (soon please!). I need to know how the gang gets (garble...mumble...no spoilers)

Fitting conclusion to ToG series

Kingdom of Ash is definitely a fitting conclusion to the ToG series. I have enjoyed this story and the characters for many years, and find myself currently going back to read favorite chapters/perspectives. By no means a perfect read, I still felt that the overall completion of the series was handled well. I read a few reviews/spoilers before completing the book, and although I did agree with some criticisms, overall I really liked KoA. Some particular irks of mine - I cared more about some characters more than others, but not getting enough of their perspectives. So, big fan of Chaol and Yrene as well as Elide and Lorcan. I am specifically re-reading KoA for their chapters. I understand all characters played a role in this final story, but I became more invested in those characters than the rest (even Aelin and Dorian). Not a fault of the author's really, but just my preference. Also, recycled jokes made through the book and some banter meant as humorous was to me kind of lame. Again, that's just on me and my personality, but felt cringey when I know it was intended to be funny. Also, reuse of certain phrases or explanations - everyone's romantic partner "felt like home", "you are mine; I am yours", etc. A shared criticism of other reviewers is that it was almost too happy an ending for the main characters. I'm not saying the author should have killed off half the cast, and those that were definitely pulled on the heart strings. It's just for several wars and an epic final battle, it was just kind of "meh" and didn't seem totally plausible.

In the end, I would still recommend this series to fantasy lovers. Again, I overall loved the series and really enjoyed this book.

Solid book, but hoped for more

I was eager to start this book because I really enjoyed the original Remnant Chronicles and the universe the author has built. While I wouldn't say this book was disappointing - I did enjoy it, it wasn't the mind-blowing epic I had hoped it would be. For me, the book became un-put-downable in about the last seven chapters. I think this is because I honestly got tired of the deception. I understand why all the secrets and how they drove the story in some respects. But I got to a point where I just felt enough already. Also, some of the secrets revealed or discoveries made were pretty darn predictable. That being said, I loved the main characters - Jase and Kazi are both amazing and I loved their chemistry. Which is probably why all of the lies grated on my nerves. The supporting cast - specifically Wren and Synove were also well written and amusing. I'd say this book is a solid 3.5 stars. I am looking forward to the next/final book and seeing what is in store for this duo of thieves.

In terms of the narrators - perfect! Both perfectly captured Kazi and Jase, and I'm more inclined to just listen to the next book versus reading.

I absolutely adored the first two books in the series, which is why I find it disappointing that I didn't enjoy this 3rd book as much. I actually really enjoy the description the author uses to paint the scene, but I think in this book it was too much. For example, early on we're told a description of Lia's tent by both she and Rafe. It was overkill. I also think there was too much internal dialogue and maybe not enough action. I know it can be hard to find the right balance, especially when detailing all that comes with courts and deception. Also, the climatic battle, was kind of a let down. I plowed through this because a reading group I am a part of promises that the next two books set in the same universe are amazing. I wanted to do my due diligence and complete the Remnant Chronicles before proceeding. I'm glad I did; I did enjoy seeing an overall happy ending for most. But again... it was just a struggle to make myself at times.

Specifically for the narration - I thought the voice actors did a great job, especially Emily Rankin. Would definitely listen to her doing more books in the future.

I understand Chaol isn't most people's favorite character in this series, but I love him because he is flawed, but learns and grows from his experiences. I enjoyed his adventure as well as Nesryn's, and the introduction of Yrene Towers. I haven't read much lately, but listening to this has sparked the desire to get back in the game.

A great book... but not my favorite of the series

I’m sure I’ll receive much flak from the fandom for saying this… but EoS wasn’t my favorite of the series. As the story progressed (I listened to it as an audiobook), I found myself less invested in Aelin as a character, but wanting the narrative to shift to Manon, Elide, and Lorcan. Perhaps it’s because their perspectives are newer and they bring new tension to the storyline, but that was my honest interest. I also was intrigued by Aedion and his complicated, but burgeoning, relationships with both his father and Lysandra, and again more invested in this arc than that of our main protagonist. Surely I’m not the only one who felt that way? Through all of Aelin’s planning, she failed to divulge any of her secrets to her court (with the exception of Lysandra) AND Rowan, and that didn’t sit right with me. These are the people who love her and would die for her, and yet they had to find out time and time again about the plans Aelin set into action after the fact. It was only towards the end of the story (about the last 10 chapters or so), does the grand plan reveal itself, and I guess the author wants us to all be okay with Aelin’s poor behavior because look at what she achieved. But I can bring myself to be all gung-ho about her again. Don’t get me wrong, I’m upset about her situation at the end of the story, and am very much looking forward to the next TWO books in the series, but I hated that I was made to feel less about Aelin’s character. Again – just my opinion.

Now that rant is done, I will say I did enjoy seeing how the pieces did fall into place and all the character perspectives. The story was very slow to start, but perhaps it felt like it took forever because this book is huge! I know subsequent books in this series will probably be just as long, but perhaps the pacing will be quicker. I can’t wait to see what Chaol and Nesryn bring to the table, and how the series ends as a whole. A great book… but again, not what I’d consider to be the best of the series.

One never realizes how much they’ve missed the incomparable Ren Lewis until Sarah Noffke puts out another book in his series. The Monster’s Adventure is an enjoyable novella that brings us up to date on Ren and into the family vacation from hell (well not really, but it’s torturous for him). Through the vacation adventures, Ren is forced to examine his past in order to create a better present and future as he deals with some unfortunate truths. Per the usual, I loved this story. It hit really close to home as I’ve had to deal with some similar experiences revealed in this book, so it was a good reminder about letting go and making the most out of every day. And it’s an even better reminder when the story is told through the voice and mind of the world’s most arrogant dream traveler. Good times!

Bardugo wrote the perfect book!

I dragged my feet so much on finishing this book; I didn’t want my adventure with the crew to end! Per the usual, Bardugo wrote what I would argue is the perfect book. The characters are all so complex, and when we’re reading about each character (or in my case listening), and knowing the current thoughts and their reflections on the past, you get a greater sense for who each person is. How all the scheming, double-crossing, contingency plans, and plain old educated guesses come together is astounding! I wonder what kind of planning Bardugo had to undertake to make sure that everything weaved together perfectly. There were definitely highs and lows in this story. But overall, I feel very satisfied with the ending. I’m sure all readers like myself want to see more of these characters, and perhaps we will in Bardugo’s future books. And I definitely look forward to what the future holds.

I also must recommend listening to the series on audiobook! I had read the first book, and snatched it up on Audible when I saw it on sale. I knew I couldn’t read the second book, yet (I will probably do so in the future). The voice actors for this series is perfect! I can’t encourage everyone enough to listen to the series; do it now! : )

I'm sad to see Ren's story conclude

Wow… Sarah Noffke really tested my love for Mr. Ren Lewis in this series, but bottom line – he is exactly who he claims to be. Nothing more, nothing less, and I love the hell out of this character for that. In “Monster Inside…” we pick up right where book 2 leaves off – with Ren basically scrambling to save his sanity. He’s dealing with the pregnancy of his newly discovered daughter as well as with trying to devise the perfect strategy to put an end to Vivian’s evil plans. The way Ren deals with these situations crosses into a weird grey area that had me shocked, confused, saddened, and eventually led to understanding and acceptance. Ren wouldn’t have gotten what he needed out of life had he not stayed true to himself, despite the fact that his actions are what most people would deem questionable or all out inappropriate. In the end, I’m sad to see Ren’s story conclude. I’m hoping that maybe we’ll see him again in some of Ms. Noffke’s future works.
