Historia
Jerusalem and the Sinai desert, AD 55. In the turbulent aftermath of the crucifixion of Jesus, agents of the Roman Empire receive information about a pilgrim bearing an incendiary letter from a religious fanatic calling himself Paul the Apostle to insurrectionists in Corinth. What's in the letter could bring down an empire. The Romans hire a former legionary, a solitary man-at-arms named Telamon to intercept the letter and destroy the courier. But once he meets the courier, Telamon experiences an extraordinary conversion.

Historia
Wyatt Earp is regarded as the most famous lawman of the Old West, best known for his role in the Gunfight at the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona. But the story of his two-year war with a band of outlaws known as the Cowboys has never been told in full. The Cowboys were the largest outlaw gang in the history of the American West. After battles with the law in Texas and New Mexico, they shifted their operations to Arizona. There, they ruled the border, robbing, rustling, smuggling, and killing with impunity until they made the fatal mistake of tangling with the Earp brothers.

Fascinating
Revisado: 04-10-20
Mr. Boessenecker has outdone himself again. After his masterpiece on Frank Hamer, I was really hoping this would compare. It did. He, once again, struck a fair balance of the heroic with all their warts. In doing so, he proves that true history, i.e. stories backed by facts and logic, is more interesting, entertaining and fascinating than the legend that has been passed down.
The only downside to listening is the narrator’s inexcusable mispronunciations of certain towns (along with my petty hang-up of the way he says “county”; which is repeated a hundred times over). You will not regret listening to/reading this book. Bravo!

Joe Kenda investigated 387 murder cases during his 23 years with the Colorado Springs Police Department and solved almost all of them. And he is ready to detail the cases that are too gruesome to air on television, cases that still haunt him, and the few cases where the killer got away. These cases are horrifyingly real, and the detail is so mesmerizing you won't be able to turn it off.

This would, no doubt, be a great book to turn page after page and enjoy; however, listening to the author read it aloud made it exceptional. As a 23 year Texas State Trooper, I was both entertained and amazed by his story. Do yourself a favor and LISTEN to this book.

Narrators, get it right!
Revisado: 07-09-18
What an amazing story that once again has been diminished by a narrator that butchers pronunciation. This simply sounds like a yankee reading a story about a foreign territory and vernacular. I wouldn't expect a farmer from the Texas Panhandle to read The Immortal Irishman. Who makes these decisions? Very frustrating

Historia
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

Who chooses these bad narrators?
Revisado: 02-07-18
It was very difficult to enjoy this story due to yet another bad narrator. Not only was it stiff and misplaced (like choosing a redneck to read the story of Bostonian Paul Revere), but I'm not sure he even pronounced one name correctly. How hard is it to do a little bit of homework and learn local pronunciation. It was so distracting and agitating that I could barely follow the story. Worth a read, not a listen.

When his picture appeared on the cover of Texas Monthly, Joaquin Jackson became the icon of the modern Texas Rangers. Nick Nolte modeled his character on him in the movie Extreme Prejudice. Jackson even had a speaking part of his own in The Good Old Boys with Tommy Lee Jones. But the role that Jackson has always played the best is that of the man who wears the silver badge cut from a Mexican cinco peso coin, a working Texas Ranger.

With the end of the Civil War, the nation recommenced its expansion onto traditional Indian tribal lands, setting off a wide-ranging conflict that would last more than three decades. In an exploration of the wars and negotiations that destroyed tribal ways of life even as they made possible the emergence of the modern United States, Peter Cozzens gives us both sides in comprehensive and singularly intimate detail.

Empire of the Summer Moon spans two astonishing stories. The first traces the rise and fall of the Comanches, the most powerful Indian tribe in American history. The second entails one of the most remarkable narratives ever to come out of the Old West: the epic saga of the pioneer woman Cynthia Ann Parker and her mixed-blood son, Quanah, who became the last and greatest chief of the Comanches.

Without a doubt the most well presented, non-objective book I've ever read on Native Americans. Wonderful. The only negative comment would be the narrator's mispronunciation of certain words; Llano, plait, Tucumcari, etc. It's not that hard to take a few minutes to research the local pronunciation of names or words with today's technology. Read (or listen to) this book.
