Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Great first person narration
Revisado: 08-23-24
Interesting story. Fortunately, not like my own though. However, I now live near that region the author hails from and have seen firsthand what the struggles of these people look like. Most all of my life the term 'Hillbilly' was seen as derogatory. Mr. Vance sheds a whole new light on this class of people.

Really enjoyed the story and character development in this book. The dynamic between the two women pairing up to kill together was very different. The open ending is intriguing.

There is good character development in this. I listened to it all despite the opening being reminiscent of Jurrasic Park. Could have been better with maybe one final edit.

Good character development
Revisado: 12-02-23
The author seemed adept at creating suspense with the written word. So many authors fall short on this ability.
The story line was good but took a bit to grasp the 'back and forth' timeline. Overall, this was a read well worth the time.

Historia
The body was left in a dumpster like so much trash, the victim a woman of no fixed address, known for offering paper flowers in return for spare change - and for keeping the cops informed of any infractions she witnessed on the street. But the notebook where she scribbled her intel on litterers and other such offenders is nowhere to be found. Then Eve is summoned away to a nearby building site to view more remains - in this case decades old, adorned with gold jewelry and fine clothing - unearthed by recent construction work.
