the story was interesting to say the least. very Vivid. I could see this being made into a TV series. however, John Waters was not the right person to read this book. I struggled to understand him both with his pronunciation and his inflections. He made the book very confusing at times. It it's almost like he didn't understand the tone of the book. I have enjoyed John Waters work in the past. This one was not right for him.

the performance was so bad that I couldn't get past the first 5 minutes of the book. I have no idea if this is a good novel. this just goes to show that it's probably better to get the hard copy of a book then listen to someone else's interpretation. Leave this one up to your imagination.

If you aren't a total nerd for science fiction being technically plausible, this ain't the book for you. I found my eyes glazing over at some of the level of detail. I had to rewind a bunch and pay extra attention to the interesting parts. There were many but they were buried in explanations of the minutiae.

The narrator's pauses between words seemed too halted for natural speech. Reinforced with an almost monotone delivery, I found it hard to pay attention. However, the main character was consistent with a great personality that the narrator created from the author's "ingredients," if you will. I don't think he is a bad actor and he is right for this book. This just isn't the kind of book I can listen to.

The plot is a very interesting and creative concept. I don't think I would have struggled to finish reading the book. The attention to detail is phenomenal abs I can see why this book has been well received by the science fiction reading community. I don't want to discourage people from reading this really good book. I just want to warn some of you that it may be too detailed and Technical to listen to. I recommend reading the book for sure! Also comma think the narrator would be good at narrating other books, so look for him as well.

Chasing the Scream Audiolibro Por Johann Hari arte de portada

Most important book on the drug war. Read it!

Johann Hari is a thorough, honest and compassionate writer that has influenced me greatly to fight for compassion and connections for addicts and to end the drug war. I already agreed that prohibition of drugs and the criminalization of addicts causes more harm than good. But Hari takes it to the street. Like, how the drug war affect addicts and non-addicts alike, on the ground. He has followed the history of the drug war and its racist roots that still exist today. He exposes the hypocrisy of those who have, and are, waging this war. He goes all over the world to discover how drug reform and legalization has worked where the war has failed. Most importantly, he discusses the stigma on drug addicts is fueling drug use, not deterring it, for those who are in pain and would use. And so much more.

I can't say enough about the book. I found myself bookmarking pages and taking notes. Everyone needs to listen or read the book. I'm getting a physical copy, myself.

The narrator was amazing. He has a gentle British accent. However, when he reads quotes within the book, his versatility in accent and expression is like no other. He is the best narrator I have heard in all my audio books. Listen to this book!

The Invisible Library Audiolibro Por Genevieve Cogman arte de portada

Is it a good story? I wouldn't know...

What disappointed you about The Invisible Library?

Where did they find Ms. Duerden? She is, so far and by far, the MOST distracting narrator I've ever listened to. It was just plain weird. Almost every sentence read in practically the same way - with with no deviation in inflection or cadence. It's like she was trying to read a bedtime story that was scary - so, in a soothing quiet voice but with the drama of telling it around the campfire. It's so unique that I'm having trouble finding the right analogy. She does a very bad characterization of British English. It's as if she is American pretending to be British but has only heard other impersonations of British English. Just listen to the sample for a minute and see if you can stand to listen. It was so distracting that I couldn't hear the story at all. From the summary, it looked like a good book, but I wouldn't know. I will have to actually read it to find out.

What could Genevieve Cogman have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I can't speak to the author's talent. Except maybe the ghouls and vampire and witches, etc. were too standard. I couldn't get past the first few "pages." The main character seemed pretty interesting.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

How did she NOT detract from the book? See my clumsy attempts at trying to find the right analogies for this person above.

What character would you cut from The Invisible Library?

The narrator...She is practically a character herself.

Any additional comments?

Find a new narrator and try again. I would give it one more try in that case.

The story is OK if you grew up in the 80s and owned a commodor 64 and played Aztec Challenge. Will Wheaton's performance was so distracting to me that I almost stopped listening. The story was just compelling enough to keep me going. Wheaton wasn't even a good actor when he was on Star Trek. I just had a major crush on him.

Wonderfully narrated. it is a really funny funny story. the sarcasm and metaphors are quite witty. It is refreshing to have the storyteller be as good at narrating as he is at writing. Very very fun book.
