Historia
Evil spirits? Shadow figures? Ghosts? The Devil? These things could not possibly exist in the physical world. In a rational thinking mind (one fully grounded in logic and common sense) there is no room for such unconventional philosophy. That’s how it had always been for the Chief of Police in Cumberland Springs, Pennsylvania, Glen Crawford. His life was simple. Nothing paranormal or supernatural has ever happened to him or his sleepy little town for that matter. That is, until the night an emaciated body is discovered inside of a backyard garden shed, just outside of town. The assumption...

One of the dumbest books I’ve ever bought

So completely boring-the characters are so stupid it’s hard to even fathom. Don’t waste the credit or time on this one!

Killer Triggers

Historia
The most common triggers for homicide are fear, rage, revenge, money, lust, and, more rarely, sheer madness. This isn’t an exact science, of course. Any given murder can have multiple triggers. Sex and revenge seem to be common partners in crime. This book offers my memories of homicide cases that I investigated or oversaw. In each case, I examine the trigger that led to death. I chose this theme for the book because even though the why of a murder case may not be critical in an investigation, it can sometimes lead us to the killer.

Another Classic Joe Kenda Book!
Revisado: 04-09-21
Another great book by Joe Kenda told only the way Joe Kenda could. His narration is the only way this book could be read as his ability to combine humor with crime is second to none. Completely captured by the stories and occasionally laughed out loud at the humor he injects. Thanks Joe Kenda for another great book!

I have read several books on the Holocaust and have been deeply moved by all of them. This book is no exception. Superbly written and absolutely could not put down. Should be a must read for all. It brought tears of sadness and joy although the content is harrowing.

Historia
Kiese Laymon is a fearless writer. In his essays, personal stories combine with piercing intellect to reflect both on the state of American society and on his experiences with abuse, which conjure conflicted feelings of shame, joy, confusion, and humiliation. Laymon invites us to consider the consequences of growing up in a nation wholly obsessed with progress yet wholly disinterested in the messy work of reckoning with where we’ve been.

Great Book!
Revisado: 07-25-18
I don’t write a lot of reviews but felt compelled to do so here. I bounce between fiction and non-fiction and was really hoping to find a good fiction when I read the Stephen King review of The Outsider. A review gave a rather low review of this book and directed readers to Summer of Night. Very thankful as I found this book to be outstanding from beginning to end. Dan Simmons character development was written to perfection - I found myself relating to each character individually and was engrossed throughout the entire book. I learned that this is a prequel - can’t wait to get into the next book.

Classic Chopper - I didnt want the story to end
Revisado: 12-27-12
My only criticism is that it was not long enough. I could have listened for another 20+ hours. His life story fascinates me. I have read all his books and watched the movie and have not been disappointed once. The book gives the reader a glimse into prison life that should be enough deterrent for anyone contemplating a life of crime. Although brutal at times, there are some stories that had me laughing out loud at Chopper's retelling of the event. It is short at just over 5 hours, but absorbing from beginning to end. If you enjoy this subject matter, this is a must listen!
