Historia
Nora Stephens' life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.

I loved it!
Revisado: 01-07-24
I do enjoyed this book. The characters are in-depth, interesting, and vibrant. In the beginning, many are misunderstood but after meaningful dialogue a new character immerses and a greater depth of character is shown. This is a book I didn’t want to end, I enjoyed reading it that much. Bravo!

From the legendary actor and best-selling author: a novel about the making of a star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action film...and the humble comic books that inspired it. Funny, touching, and wonderfully thought-provoking, while also capturing the changes in America and American culture since World War II.

In this crazy world we live in not every book or story has to be tragic to be of value. I loved this book. It was sweet, gave me lots of info into film making and enjoyable. His voice is soothing, comfortable and the book was interesting. I give it a thumbs up!

Quite fascinating concept
Revisado: 03-02-23
Many reviewers have mentioned how this book is a sad read. I can understand their observation as discrimination is a part of the book but I also see hope. While the premise of shortened life can be heartbreaking, the author stresses through the characters that we must make the time we have here on earth joyous and meaningful. Just because you live a long life doesn’t mean in itself that it’s good; we must make the most of everyday. That’s what I take from the book, a lesson we can all learn and take to heart.

Revisado: 12-03-22
I couldn’t have enjoyed this book more. Maria’s insight into life is quite extraordinary, the book is full of life affirming messages brought together from her years of research, life experiences, trial and error, and family history. She is her own person with her own ideas of ways to make this world a far better place. I must read and reread.

Suspenseful
Revisado: 11-28-22
Maybe because I like museums or the fact that I’m going to New York soon and can visit, The Cloisters realty appealed to me. The book gives the reader a since of Medieval history in such a compelling way; interesting and fascinating but never purely academic even though the book is based on academics pursuits. What is completely unexpected is the ending. I never saw it coming and am still astonished. Kudos to Katy Hays for a truly mesmerizing read.

Historia
In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the next Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup “unicorn” promised to revolutionize the medical industry with its breakthrough device, which performed the whole range of laboratory tests from a single drop of blood. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes’s worth at an estimated $4.5 billion.

Fascinating book and subject
Revisado: 08-21-19
This is the best book I’ve read in years. I couldn’t stop listening; I was captivated. The extent to which Elizabeth Holmes/Theranos deceived so many people for so long is frightening. Hindsight is 20/20 but wow, so many smart people believed in her that she was able to continue to raise funds, work outside ethical guidelines, & have well educated believe all she said w/o anyone finding out the truth for years. The authors ability to do the detective work to expose this fallacy most likely saved people’s lives.
I can highly recommend this book.

Revisado: 11-07-17
I believe this might be Dan Browns best book. Intriguing characters and story, not the run of the mill mystery. Dan Brown developed the story line and made the book irresistible to stop listening to throughout-the entire book. I highly recommend it.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Wonderfully written book about the French resistance during WWII.
Revisado: 01-15-16
This very moving book about the French experience of WWII is quite profound. The character development was very well thought out as well as the story line. This period of time and what happened by the hand of the Nazi's is beyond horrible in description but only makes us love and care for the characters even more. Very well written and very much worth the time to read. I highly recommend it.

Revisado: 09-22-15
If you like the previous books in this series, you will appreciate this one also. It's impossible to tell that the original author of the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" series didn't write this book also. (Stieg Larson is deceased). All of the main characters from the previous series are back plus a few new ones. I couldn't put the book down and hope the new author continues writing.

This book will put you in the worst mood ever!!!
Revisado: 03-16-15
Would you try another book from Kate Manning and/or Terry Donnelly?
I wouldn't read another book by Kate Manning as I just hated this one. Terry Donnelly's voice was good for this book's story but I'm not sure I'd like to listen to it again.
What do you think your next listen will be?
not sure. something more uplifting
What about Terry Donnelly’s performance did you like?
It was perfect for the character who "was down and out."
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger, sadness, fury, disgust
Any additional comments?
While I knew a bit about the subject matter of this book, it wasn't a book I picked out to read as it was a book club book. The subject matter is difficult, hard to listen to, and downright horrible. I will invest more time and attention before I order another book.
