Historia
Flavius Ferox is the hard-bitten centurion charged with keeping the peace on Britannia's frontier with the barbarian tribes of the north. Now he's been summoned to Londinium by the governor, but before he sets out an imperial freedman is found murdered in a latrine at Vindolanda fort. Ferox must find the killer. As he follows the trail, the murder leads him to plots against the empire and Rome itself. Bandits, soldiers and gladiators alike are trying to kill him, old friends turn traitor, and Ferox is lured reluctantly to the sinister haunts of the old druids on the isle of Mona.

The End of Wall Street is a blow-by-blow account of America's biggest financial collapse since the Great Depression. Drawing on 180 interviews, including sit-downs with top government officials and Wall Street CEOs, Lowenstein tells, with grace, wit, and razor-sharp understanding, the full story of the end of Wall Street as we knew it.

Good unbiased narrative of the financial crisis. Lowenstein has a great talent in explaining economic complexities in an understandable even entertaining way. Deserves a second read. Excellent performance but a very disturbing book.

Historia
Britannia, AD 117: Roman centurion Flavius Ferox is trying to live a quiet life of dignified leisure, overseeing his wife's estate and doing his best to resist the urge to murder an annoying neighbor—until someone else does it for him. Dragged back into a life of violence, Ferox finds himself chasing raiders, fighting chieftains and negotiating with kings, journeying far into the north just as war breaks out. With the new emperor, Hadrian, sending agents from Rome, the whole world seems to be changing.

Fantastic
Revisado: 07-13-23
I've read and listened to all of the six books in the series. This was a great finish. The performance was brilliant, the tension building fantastic and the character development superb. When author and narrator can make the characters come alive you've done something special. When these great historical novels are written by a great historian it makes the whole era come alive. Nice depiction of Hadrian as well. As for pure entertainment all books in the series are just FUN reads. Not once when I started one of these books could I put it down until finished.

Historia
In 2018, Ben Bernanke, Tim Geithner, and Hank Paulson came together to reflect on the lessons of the 2008 financial crisis 10 years on. Recognizing that, as Ben put it, "the enemy is forgetting," they examine the causes of the crisis, why it was so damaging, and what it ultimately took to prevent a second Great Depression. And they provide to their successors in the United States and the finance ministers and central bank governors of other countries a valuable playbook for reducing the damage from future financial crises.

Important little Book
Revisado: 06-30-23
Am excellent review of the worst economic crisis since the great depression by the three principle players who navigated us successfully through it. I've read their three individual memoirs of the crisis already but this look back has the advantage of a ten years distance from it. It's also a lesson in politics as the art of the possible. They did an unbelievably great job; the proof is in their success. But that's not why they wrote the book. These three are problem solvers. They want to help us in planning so it doesn't happen again. The narration is excellent. If you have time to read just one book about the crisis I think this should be it. Forewarned is forearmed!

Historia
In 2006, Ben S. Bernanke was appointed chair of the Federal Reserve, capping a meteoric trajectory from a rural South Carolina childhood to professorships at Stanford and Princeton, to public service in Washington's halls of power. There would be no time to celebrate, however - the burst of the housing bubble in 2007 set off a domino effect that would bring the global financial system to the brink of meltdown.

One of the Best books I've listened to.
Revisado: 06-28-23
This is my second time through the "Courage to Act" and it was even better the second time. It is a fascinating personal history of one of the most disruptive and dangerous moments in our economic history by one of the principal players in saving us from catastrophe. Nobody narrates better than Grover Gardner. What worries me most after listening to this book is whether our increasingly dysfunctional government will be able to handle the next crisis that certainly will come our way. This is a marvelous thought provoking book. Thank you Mr. Bernanke for being among those with the courage to act.

A great narrative history of the crisis
Revisado: 06-24-23
Ross Sorkin did a very good job of humanizing the financial crisis. He was pretty even handed in his narrative. However I don't think he gave enough credit to Bernanke Geithner and Paulson. I believe their actions during the crisis were nothing short of heroic. William Hughes does a masterful job of narration. Personally I wish they had saved Lehman Brothers. They certainly wanted to but with the political circumstances at that moment in time it was impossible. This book is taylor made for audible. That format fits nicely with the narrative. All things considered, a great audible book.

A fascinating Story
Revisado: 06-22-23
This is a great read about an historic crisis and those dedicated people that saw us through it. Beautifully written and performed by Dan Woren it's also very disturbing. It exposes a dysfunctional government where far to many are apparently more interested in politics than patriotism. Though I don't agree with some of Paulson's solutions in his afterward I never doubt his patriotism or his good intentions. The one glaring omission in his conclusions is the cost of our several wars during the Bush Administration. We will be paying the price for those for sometime. Nothing however detracts from his heroic stand during the crisis. He is part of the leadership team that saved us from the collapse of the Global financial system. These people were heroes, largely unsung heroes, and they should be recognized as such!

Historia
Pompey, Caesar, Cicero, Brutus, Antony: the names resonate across thousands of years. Major figures in the civil wars that brutally ended the Roman republic, their lives still haunt us as examples of how the hunger for personal power can overwhelm collective politics, how the exaltation of the military can corrode civilian authority, and how the best intentions can lead to disastrous consequences. Plutarch renders these history-making lives as flesh-and-blood characters.
