Acerca de esta escucha

From bestselling historian Adrian Goldsworthy, the final book in his authentic, action-packed trilogy set on the frontiers of the Roman Empire.

Britannia, AD 117: Roman centurion Flavius Ferox is trying to live a quiet life of dignified leisure, overseeing his wife's estate and doing his best to resist the urge to murder an annoying neighbor—until someone else does it for him. Dragged back into a life of violence, Ferox finds himself chasing raiders, fighting chieftains and negotiating with kings, journeying far into the north just as war breaks out.

With the new emperor, Hadrian, sending agents from Rome, the whole world seems to be changing: old friends become enemies, enemies claim they are friends, and new and deadly threats lurk in the shadows.

When, five years later, Hadrian himself comes to Britannia to inspect his great wall, a new war erupts suddenly, dividing tribes and families. Ferox is the only one who can save the emperor—but with his family, and his own life, in danger, Ferox must first decide whose side he is on...

Gritty, gripping and profoundly authentic, The Wall, set against the construction of Hardian's Wall, is the final book in the City of Victory trilogy from bestselling historian Adrian Goldsworthy.

It's a perfect ending to an excellent series. The characters are interesting, and the backdrop in which the story takes place is fascinating. It's historical fiction at its best.

I loved it!

If you're reading this review, odds are you've already read, and enjoyed, the previous five Vindolanda novels. Each book is good, but The Wall may be the best of the bunch (the epilogue alone is historical conspiracy at its finest).
If you haven't listened to this series yet, then I highly recommend you do, it's great.
As usual, Peter Noble's narration is superb.

Book Six, Five Stars.

Man oh man.
I wish there was more of this but I am so happy at where it left off.
Bravo.

Love this

I've read and listened to all of the six books in the series. This was a great finish. The performance was brilliant, the tension building fantastic and the character development superb. When author and narrator can make the characters come alive you've done something special. When these great historical novels are written by a great historian it makes the whole era come alive. Nice depiction of Hadrian as well. As for pure entertainment all books in the series are just FUN reads. Not once when I started one of these books could I put it down until finished.

Fantastic

Love the books. Welsh accents of the wolf were not strong but recognizable as being welsh. Otherwise narration was good. Looking forward to the next books loving the journey.

Great series

Before staring this book, I actually went back and reread (listened to) all five of the preceding books in the series. It had been long enough that a lot felt brand new as well as remembered, and I did nothing but deepen my regard for the author’s abilities. In my opinion, he is one of the masters of historical fiction. This final chapter did not disappoint . While I will miss reading more of Ferox, I trust Mr, Goldsworthy will treat us to similarly crafted works of historical fiction in the future.

Wonderful wrap up to the Ferox Series

The narration is sublime. The story is solid if a bit iffy in places. A wonderful expert

Best narrator with a fine story to tell

Written by a historian, the level of detail is excellent. The narrator, Peter Noble, is one of my favorites.

Great Listen

As a listener, I would've appreciated better descriptions of the machines mentioned. The Scorpio was well described, but that was the only one, besides the ram.

All three books were enjoyable.

Historically very accurate and gives a good picture of what it may have been like at time. I really enjoyed the battle in the middle. Characters are good, but they don't really have to make any tough decisions so they are not as developed as I would have liked. That said this is more of a plot driven story so I could excuse that except the plot itself is a pretty disjointed. It almost feels like random events thrown together. I think this is probably the weakest link of the series but still an enjoyable read.

Weakest link in the series.
