Great book, bad audiobook
Revisado: 04-20-25
The AI reader constantly mispronounces things and gets the intonation wrong. Some chapters have over 2 minutes of reading out URLs letter by letter, which massively interrupts the flow.
However the content is great, but you are better off getting the Kindle or physical book (especially since there are many charts referenced which are not provided with the audiobook).

Why are we scared of ghosts, zombies, vampires, demons, and monsters, when we know they are not real? Why do dark attics give us the creeps? How do writers and directors know exactly what anxieties to tap into, so that we break out in goosebumps, cover our eyes, and cringe? Shannon Scott invites you into the spooky, creepy, and sometimes surprising world of the horror genre to examine how popular scary movies and books manipulate our collective and individual fears—not only to frighten us, but also to address taboo subjects, and to reflect and comment on the state of our society.

How to suck all the fun out of horror
Revisado: 03-19-25
This dissects all horror as just metaphors for social ills and political problems. Tedious and sucks the fun out of some films that are just fun, good scares. Ok, if you view everything through a lens of social justice, then you might like this. But if you enjoy horror as an entertaining art form, then skip this one.

Most is amazing, but then it gets into race preferences
Revisado: 01-30-25
Some of the best work on storytelling available. Was enjoying it so much till they started bemoaning too much of a race being in the audience and clear preferences of certain races and backgrounds over others. It's a shame to alienate some of your biggest fans. Hope they change.

If everyone is looking to secure a relationship with their perceived best option, then the perception of value must be at the heart of human coupling. In this groundbreaking work, psychologist Orion Taraban sets forth his economic model of relationships and exposes the often uncomfortable laws that govern the sexual marketplace. After listening to "The Value of Others," you'll never look at relationships the same way again.

Dry, academic, hard to get through
Revisado: 07-14-24
Love much of Orion's YouTube content, but man, I wish he had a better editor that would have encouraged him to do a more accessible version of this. It could have been a pop culture hit. But in this form, it will be a disappointment to anyone that does not want to think in terms of coefficients and ratios. The same points could be made in a way that isn't so tedious to listen to. I was falling asleep and had to listen at 3X speed to get through this. Shame, since I'm sure there's some great concepts buried in the academic word salad.

Excellent for American audience
Revisado: 06-02-24
Great stuff, but definitely for an American audience. Some of the dialogue is too cheesy to actually use in many other regions. But overall excellent.
I do wish his challenge to overcome rejection was something better than asking for a discount on a coffee. To just do something awkward and ineffective for practice seems odd when there are many other challenges that are more natural and win-win. I did door to door sales for a couple years and getting over rejection is huge, but the key is to believe in what you're selling and finding a good fit with the person you are presenting to. An assignment that is just being weird doesn't instill confidence that further exercises will be worthwhile. Everything else in the book is good, but I would say, don't think you need to do win-lose exercises. Win-win is more effective.

Have you ever looked around and wondered, “Why has everyone found love except me?” You’re not the only one. Great relationships don’t just appear in our lives - they’re the culmination of a series of decisions, including whom to date, how to end it with the wrong person, and when to commit to the right one. But our brains often get in the way. We make poor decisions, which thwart us on our quest to find lasting love.

Repetitive, female focused (which is great if female)
Revisado: 02-23-24
Some good advice repeated over and over and over. The advice is mostly for females and while well intentioned, just not effective for men in many situations. Was hoping this was more science focused but it's like a very long blog post for a high-end woman's magazine.

Ultimately he found the way to reduce his workload by 80 percent while actually increasing results and success. Furthermore, he could spend time on what matters most: his family.

Lovely guy, needs serious editing
Revisado: 11-25-23
Got this since I saw a great interview with the author. I don't regret the purchase, but man, this was hard to get through. Ended up listening at 3.5 speed since I was hoping it would eventually get to the points and interesting stories of people taking the pathless path. But it's mostly just a lot of random stories from his career and life, which I'm sure are interesting to him and his friends, but I wasn't expecting a memoir. Was really expecting something with clear principles and stories from his audience that illustrate the points. I'm giving it 3 stars since he seems like a great guy, but honestly the short interview I watched of him was better value for my time.

New Age Mush
Revisado: 11-06-23
Wish I could get my money and time back on this. There's a lot of sophisticated hand-waving and "elite spirituality" which is ultimately just mushy thinking. This is the Walmart version of enlightenment. Much better books out there without the pretentiousness.

Fascinating but very repetitive
Revisado: 11-03-23
Fascinating look into this world, but it told essentially the same stories over and over with slight variations. The same points are also made over and over. I suppose that makes for good entertainment, but if you just want the key points it's a far too laborious.
