Excellent Performance - Not too keen on modernism
Revisado: 06-23-19
Had to read this story for a college class. I understand that it is a classic and an exemplar of the early modernist/existentialist movement in literature. I found the performance to be excellent even though these type of stories don't necessarily appeal to me. Hence the 5 stars on performance and 4 on the story.

Great performance of a depressing story.
Revisado: 06-18-19
The performance was very good. I truly enjoyed this translation into American English. The story is typical of the late modernist period where people were wondering about the pointlessness of life. Had to read this book for a school assignment. This type of story isn't something that I would have chosen myself out of my own volition because I don't like narratives with a depressing and hopeless message. Hence, the 3 stars for the story. Everything else is 5 stars.

Historia
Khaled Hosseini, the number-one New York Times best-selling author of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, has written a new novel about how we love, how we take care of one another, and how the choices we make resonate through generations. In this tale revolving around not just parents and children but brothers and sisters, cousins and caretakers, Hosseini explores the many ways in which families nurture, wound, betray, honor, and sacrifice for one another; and how often we are surprised by the actions of those closest to us, at the times that matter most.

Historia
"The war tried to kill us in the spring," begins this breathtaking account of friendship and loss. In Al Tafar, Iraq, 21-year-old Private Bartle and 18-year-old Private Murphy cling to life as their platoon launches a bloody battle for the city. In the endless days that follow, the two young soldiers do everything to protect each other from the forces that press in on every side: the insurgents, physical fatigue, and the mental stress that comes from constant danger. Bound together since basic training when their tough-as-nails sergeant ordered Bartle to watch over Murphy, the two have been dropped into a war neither is prepared for.

Compelling narrative. A true page turner! It sheds a light on what war does to our soldiers and it underscores the root of PTSD without calling it out by name.

Naked Lunch is one of the most important novels of the 20th century, a book that redefined not just literature but American culture. An unnerving tale of a narcotics addict unmoored in New York, Tangiers, and, ultimately, a nightmarish wasteland known as Interzone.

Prescribed book in a lit class in grad school.
Revisado: 11-02-18
I purchased the book b/c it was prescribed for my class (MA in Lit). I typically buy the accompanying audiobooks as well. Hmm. What can I say...? If you are into bestiality, raw pornography, pedophilia, and sodomy, you will love this piece of garbage. There is no plot whatsoever either. Burroughs documents in great detail the aimless, pointless, and desperate life of a homosexual drug addict. On my part, I won't even dignify reselling the book. I'll shred it and dump it in the trash as soon a the term is over and I'll ask Audible to delete the file from my library. I find the contents in "Naked Lunch" deeply offensive and morally reprehensive.

Historia
Dr. Aziz is a young Muslim physician in the British Indian town of Chandrapore. One evening he comes across an English woman, Mrs. Moore, in the courtyard of a local mosque; she and her younger travelling companion Adela are disappointed by claustrophobic British colonial culture and wish to see something of the 'real' India. But when Aziz kindly offers to take them on a tour of the Marabar caves with his close friend Cyril Fielding, the trip results in a shocking accusation....

The audio DOESN'T work and CSR is unreachable
Revisado: 07-08-18
I know the story and it is beautiful. I've seen the film and I have the book. I purchased the unabridged audio version for my collection only to find out that the recording is corrupted. I can't hear ANY of the chapters. I checked my other books in my audio library and they all work. Therefore, it is this file only. I have a Windows 10 laptop and I listen exclusively online. I don't ever download the files. I tried to reach customer service through the chat, but NOBODY picks up the chat. I'll have to call and/or email to have this resolved. The worst part is that this narration is the only one available for Forster's novel. I'm pretty upset right now; hence, my low scores on performance and overall rating. Please, beware when you purchase this audio file.

The narrator saved me!
Revisado: 01-15-18
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Had to read this book for my English class in college. I found Woolf's story intensely boring. Had it not been for such a superb narration, I don't think I could have managed to get through the novel.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I will probably listen to some other classic novel or play.
Which character – as performed by Juliet Stevenson – was your favorite?
n/a
Did To the Lighthouse inspire you to do anything?
It inspired me to avoid Woolf.
Any additional comments?
I have just discovered that I am not a fan of Virginia Woolf. I prefer novels that move at a faster pace rather than filled with useless description after description.

Historia
With extraordinary access to the West Wing, Michael Wolff reveals what happened behind-the-scenes in the first nine months of the most controversial presidency of our time in Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House. Since Donald Trump was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States, the country—and the world—has witnessed a stormy, outrageous, and absolutely mesmerizing presidential term that reflects the volatility and fierceness of the man elected Commander-in-Chief.

Purchased as my patriotic duty against oppression.
Revisado: 01-06-18
Any additional comments?
I bought the audiobook version of this book as my patriotic duty to stand up against oppression and defend the REAL America--not the current administration's warped version of it. The recording is almost 12 hours long. So far, I have listened to 2hrs 15 mins of it. The narration is superb. It feels like the reader is either talking to you or that he is having a conversation with someone and you are in the middle of it, taking it all in. It was hard to stop. But, I do have a life, so I bookmarked where I left off and I'll pick up another couple of hours tomorrow and so on until I finish it. Even if portions of it aren't exactly accurate, most of it does ring true and lines up with the developments that I have been following up from credible sources on the news since 45 was a candidate. Just to think of the massive WH cover-up of this man's mental health issues is alarming. All of these enablers that sit on the sidelines putting party over country are just as guilty of treason to our nation as the corrupt first family is. We are under attack from the inside. Our democracy and our way of life are in jeopardy. I surely hope that this experience teaches America a real lesson and that we become more vigilant and more conscientious at the ballot box in the future. Elections, good or bad, have consequences. We must get it right next time. Our very existence depends on it!
