Historia
Although born to rule, Aidan lives as a scribe in a remote Irish monastery on the far, wild edge of Christendom. Secure in work, contemplation, and dreams of the wider world, a miracle bursts into Aidan's quiet life. He is chosen to accompany a small band of monks on a quest to the fabled city of Byzantium, where they are to present the beautiful and costly hand-illuminated Book of Kells to the emperor of all Christendom.

Historia
After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

Dared to let the kids listen and they loved it...

Delicious witty saga
Revisado: 11-05-24
This playful romp through history was a delightful listen. Reminiscent of early Tom Robbins, our protagonist is at center stage of a fanciful tale wrapped in an incidental caper and some satirical portrayal of the ridiculousness of greed and power . Full of explosions and zany characters that the narrator brings to life with his performance. Highly recommended, it is a bang up piece of work and I look forward to listening to more tales from this author!

Six million years ago, at the very dawn of the starfaring era, Abigail Gentian fractured herself into a thousand male and female clones: the shatterlings. Sent out into the galaxy, these shatterlings have stood aloof as they document the rise and fall of countless human empires. They meet every 200,000 years to exchange news and memories of their travels with their siblings.

A stunning stand alone novel.
Revisado: 09-26-24
I’m a rabidly biased reader and lover of Alistair Reynolds books. The revelation space novels are a favorite series. This stand alone novel (not set the Revelation Universe) Partially a “who done it?” Blended with a sprawling tale that has/had taken place over a brilliantly executed Galactic time frame. Do yourself a solid and go enjoy this epic piece of work.

Kell is one of the last Travelers - magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel universes. As such, he can choose where he lands. There's Grey London, dirty and boring, without any magic, ruled by a mad King George. Then there's Red London, where life and magic are revered, and the Maresh Dynasty presides over a flourishing empire. There's White London, ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne. And once upon a time, there was Black London...but no one speaks of that now.

Phenomenal narration and a quirky bloodthirsty pickpocket heroine
Revisado: 03-14-24
Interesting take on magic and other realms that are the same yet wildly different. Initially thought it to be more of a YA kind of book- however the writing was far more sophisticated and poetic than expected. I’ll certainly listen to the 2 following audiobooks.

Well wrought tale, the pacing was a bit slower and plot less convoluted than a “typical” N.S. yarn. If there IS a typical for Neal Stephenson. It was a good listen, though I preferred the written version a bit more. My only detractor was the abrupt ending of the tale. I had forgotten how quickly the two threads of the story (meatspace vs Bitworld) narratives ended with little closure/wrap up. All told I did enjoy it.

Imagine two worlds at war. In one, citizens with jetpacks and ray guns have colonized Venus. In the other, magic reigns supreme, and history turns on swords and spells. Now imagine they have just discovered a third world. Our world. Our timeline of rideshare apps and strip malls is about to become the newest battlefield in the long war between science fiction and fantasy.

Quirky light fun with a splash of silly
Revisado: 01-18-24
Big fan of Stephenson, never heard of anything by the other authors. Wasn’t quite what I expected in terms of plotting, there was however some quite funny stand out moments. I loved that it was presented with multiple voice actors and had the flavor of an “Old Radio Show” drama. Some of the scene shifts were abrupt and the chapters varied greatly in length. These were the two main detractors from the overall rating, The story was a bit more whimsical than I generally enjoy in comedic works. On Audio quality: loved that there were sound effects, they did however at times drown out the actors dialogue. One thing to note for my own bias, this was perhaps the second or third audiobook I’ve listened to that I had not actually “Read” prior to listening to. This could be why I was slightly disappointed in the overall quality. Speaking for myself- would not enjoy a sequel for this particular work but there is surely an audience out there that would love this presentation.

Historia
New York Times best-selling author Kim Stanley Robinson returns with a bold and brilliant vision of New York City in the next century. As the sea levels rose, every street became a canal. Every skyscraper an island. For the residents of one apartment building in Madison Square, however, New York in the year 2140 is far from a drowned city. There is the market trader, who finds opportunities where others find trouble. There is the detective, whose work will never disappear—along with the lawyers, of course.

KSR provides yet another beautiful map to a better future.
Revisado: 01-05-24
Loved the little tid-bits of historic NewYork personages. As always KSR provides a potential template and rich storytelling to guide one through tumultuous times. At the same time creating a compelling narrative through the interactions between the many players in the tale. Highly recommend ANY of his books!

Revisado: 07-28-23
Huge Simmons fan, and still fairly new to audiobooks.
I have read the Hyperion cantos at least 4-5 times over the decades. I skipped listening to book one and jumped in at The Fall of Hyperion- because it sets up the final two novels which are masterful Sci-Fi canon. The narrator is so awesome! I may have to jump back to book one just to see how it compares with this Audi installment. Truly impressed with the narrator, I may have to go find other books that I haven’t read before just to see how his style sounds with an unfamiliar world. I’m gonna listen to the last two of the cantos so you all can expect a couple more reviews in the near future.
