Historia
A fragile alliance stands against the Daegon. Star nations with decades of war and hatred between them must unite against the invaders who will conquer them all without mercy. When Gage must destroy a key enemy installation, his coalition could crumble before the first shot is fired. As that battle rages, Albion is dying. Her people crushed beneath the occupier’s heel, losing all they are as they're turned into little more than slaves and cannon fodder for their oppressors.

Very easy to follow and enjoyed every book.

This was a very good book series. The performance was fantastic too. Each book is very short and paying full price for a final book that is about 5.5 hours long is a stretch. Should have just done 3 books, not six. The last book had appropriate closure and generally wrapped things up well enough. My biggest complaint is it felt rushed and lacked a proper build-up to the final battle. I will listen to other books by Richard Fox with eagerness.

The Banished Lands has a violent past where armies of men and giants clashed in battle, but now giants are seen, the stones weep blood, and giant wyrms are stirring. Those who can still read the signs see a threat far greater than the ancient wars. For if the Black Sun gains ascendancy, mankind's hopes and dreams will fall to dust....

Liked the story. The narrator is meh.
Revisado: 02-20-25
I have listened to hundreds of books now. Most are science fiction or fantasy of some sort. I enjoyed to overall story. It was a little hard to follow at first due to multiple story lines. Major events are a bit abrupt and rushed. However, I enjoyed it and will finish the series. My main issue is the narrator. He reads normal at times but for some reason elongated words during dialogue. If the goal was to make some of the characters daft and simple then I get it. I just think it was poor acting. It was a distraction that made characters hard to resonate with.

Very good story. Even better performance by Brand.
Revisado: 07-15-24
First, I want to say, I am through the first eight novel and really enjoy them. The story is not necessarily original, but it is different enough to make it intriguing. The characters are well developed and easy to like. The only complaint, if I can even call it that, is the writer is unnecessarily repetitive with words. It happens regularly throughout the novels, so I do not believe it to be done in error. However, it is a minor distraction from an otherwise well written and thought out story.

Good, not great.
Revisado: 04-11-24
I did not hate this book. The story was moderately interesting with a different take on magic. The battle scenes seemed a bit rushed and anti-climactic. However, I was constantly turning volume up and down due to the narrator's voice fluctuations. On top of that, it seemed like throughout the book, there was an echo like he was reading from the bathroom. It was not a deal breaker, but it was close.

Legend. Myth. Nightfall has long been rumored to be nothing more than whispers on the breeze. If only it were so. In those halls of darkness, where children are taken from the world and given to shadow and dust, Asher is destined for that same fate. He will become the myth. He will become the legend. He will become the whisper of Death itself.

This is an origin story and a good one. The story is gritty, elaborate and informative. Best of all, it is devoid of real-world social pandering. The entire series involving Asher is worth the days of listening. I look forward to the origin series with the Dragorn.

Historia
The man who became known as Esrahaddon is reported to have destroyed the world’s greatest empire—but there are those who believe he saved it. Few individuals are as divisive, but all agree on three facts: He was exiled to the wilderness, hunted by a goblin priestess, and sentenced to death by a god—all before the age of eight. How he managed to survive and why people continued to fear his name a thousand years later has always been a mystery...until now.

The Rise and Fall books were a wonderful back tale of Sullivan's books. Each book tells a story which is both captivating and informative. None of the books are necessary to understand the Theft of Swords but all three of them are absolutely worth it. The only thing I can complain about is that there aren't enough of these books.

Story is bleh. Performance is good.
Revisado: 09-26-23
Full discretion, I listened to all of Rowe's books in this series to date. I don't hate these books, but they are more of a filler for an author that truly captivates. This story has some upside and interest but the writing itself lack originality and tries too hard to incorporate the same lackluster character trails that are sinking cinema. The writing is clearly geared towards progressive social ideologies. Frankly, it distracts from the story and the dialogue does not seem fluid. There are way too many amazing authors that write in a much more appealing and less pandering style to waste any more time on this series.

Not worth it.
Revisado: 07-13-23
I love Anthony Ryan books and Steven Brand is a top 5 performer on Audible.com for me. This book completely lacked character development. It was more of a snapshot or chapter of a book than an actual story. There was just not enough time to resonate with characters and care about their fates. The writing was still good, and the performance was superb, as usual. Just seemed like a lazy way to get a story out there and make money.

Overall story good. Dialogue is awful.
Revisado: 02-24-23
I really like the premise of this story. The concepts, while not wholly original, are good and the various characters and alien races fill their roles nicely. I just cannot get past the dialogue. It is downright awful. Aside from basically every main character being extremely egotistical, the banter back and forth between them makes zero sense. Likely, it reads better than when you listen to it. This doesn't make the book bad; it is just an observation. Sort of like when someone in a movie pulls the slide on a handgun right before they are about to get in a gun fight. Anyone with firearms experience cringes because it is not realistic. Same thing here, just with words. This specific book in the series was not any better or worse than the first 16.

Good story. Hard characters to like.
Revisado: 11-14-22
Firstly, I have finished all 16 of these so obviously it is not a horrible book series. However, the main character is extremely arrogant, and his dialogue just does not flow properly. The writer's concept of military command structure is academically accurate, but not how it is in action (military officer for 8 years). Constantly asking an AI if they are questioning your orders is out of place and odd. Almost every main character is cocky, and the writer reminds you of that throughout the books. The professor is the smartest man alive and the greatest ladies man of all time, the pilot is the best pilot in the business and can do no wrong flying, and the captain is the best soldier/spy there is and the only one capable of figuring problems out.
The plot and story are quite good otherwise.
