When he befriends an aged Tibetan lama his life is transformed as he is requested to accompany him on a mysterious quest to find the legendary River of the Arrow and achieve Enlightenment.

Too much mysticism for my taste.
Revisado: 11-05-22
The story might be enjoyable if you are interested in mystic traditions, Buddhism, the Tibetan religions etc. I was interested in the story because I am interested in India, but I think a lot got lost in translation. The language did not come across as very natural when depicted in English, and sadly the very interesting history of that time in that part of the world was no more than a backdrop to a mystical journey.

Historia
It dawned on me one day that most of the scare stories in the media today are based on things that are either invisible, like CO2 and radiation, or very remote, like polar bears and coral reefs. Thus, the average person cannot observe and verify the truth of these claims for themselves. They must rely on activists, the media, politicians, and scientists - all of whom have a huge financial and/or political interest in the subject - to tell them the truth.

Great insights
Revisado: 08-24-21
The content of this book is great, a tad difficult to follow at times for a layman, but the author has done his bit in making everything as simple as possible. As for the narration, I would have preferred it to be a bit more deadpan, given the political context of this discussion, but that's just me.

Dan Stevens brought Roald Dahl's words to life wonderfully. I've always loved these two books (Boy and Going Solo), and this is a great version.

Historia
In The Blank Slate, Steven Pinker, one of the world's leading experts on language and the mind, explores the idea of human nature and its moral, emotional, and political colorings. With characteristic wit, lucidity, and insight, Pinker argues that the dogma that the mind has no innate traits, denies our common humanity and our individual preferences, replaces objective analyses of social problems with feel-good slogans, and distorts our understanding of politics, violence, parenting, and the arts.

The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels

Historia
For decades environmentalists have told us that using fossil fuels is a self-destructive addiction that will destroy our planet. Yet by every measure of human well-being, from life expectancy to clean water to climate safety, life has been getting better and better. How can this be? The explanation is that we usually hear only one side of the story. We're taught to think only of the negatives of fossil fuels, their risks and side effects, but not their positives.

In The Madness of Crowds Douglas Murray investigates the dangers of ‘woke’ culture and the rise of identity politics.
