Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

King’s “out of character” stories are my favorite
Revisado: 01-30-23
King is well known for horror and his world where all his stories are intertwined. And they’re wonderful. But every once in a while he surprises us with a stand-alone story that is out of his horror wheelhouse that is equally beautifully written. This is one of those stories. If you’re a fan of his work, you’ll either love or hate this, if you’re expecting horror you’ll be disappointed. If you’re expecting a well written story with intrigue and will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting to know more, then continue on. Thank you, Mr. King, for this and other worlds you have introduced us to. Now to reread some fantasy from my youth, I think Lovecraft is a good start…

Stick with it!
Revisado: 07-01-22
It pays to stick with it until the end. It feels a little slow and dry especially toward the middle, but definitely redeems itself as you approach the end. So if you’re partway through it and asking yourself if it’s worth toughing through the rest of the story… yes!

Holy Shucking Bats, Quentin!
Revisado: 10-15-21
Sig and Hutch - creators of such rich characters and story lines. This collaboration of two brilliant literary minds is perfection.
If you are new to Scott Sigler’s “Silgerverse”, this is a great starting point. You don’t NEED to read the GFL books in order to understand the story, this stands alone on its own just fine.
However, when you get to the end and want more AND YOU SHUCKING WILL BECAUSE IT’S A SHAMBLAZING STORY, get The Rookie next, and start this whole story arc at the beginning. Meet characters that are mentioned here in The Stone Wolves but never actually introduced.
The GFL is so much more than football, and this book shows that and leaves you wanting so much more. This cast of characters is relatable, funny, frightening, and fascinating. I seriously hope there will be more GFL spin-off adventures with this crew in the future.

Historia
The sequel to the number one Audible Best Seller Earthcore, Mount Fitz Roy continues the tale of Patrick O’Doyle and Bertha Lybrand, who were part of the horror show that occurred far below the mountains of Utah. They learn that the "mother of all motherlodes” discovered there was not unique, that there is another deposit similar to it three miles beneath the towering peak of Cerro Chaltén on the disputed border between Chile and Argentina. O'Doyle, a middle-aged former member of a disgraced black-ops unit, gets his aging team back together to go after this fortune.

Constant thrill ride
Revisado: 01-13-21
I re-listened to Earthcore and then jumped right into Mount Fitz Roy after it came out.
According to Audible’s numbers, thats 49 hours and 42 minutes of emotional attachment to these characters.
There’s characters you love, there are characters you love to hate. There’s action, aliens, mercenary battles, and lots of death.
And be prepared to cry. No matter how “tough guy” you think you are. I have never sobbed so hard over a book in my life.
The ending was perfect, Scott. Absolutely perfect.

I love that Trevor the the reading himself. Hearing the African languages spoken they way they're meant to be heard is a real treat for someone like me who would have completely butchered it in my mind if I had been reading this in print!

Sicker never ceases to amaze
Revisado: 02-03-18
Not my absolute favorite of his works but it always amazes me how he manages to tie together characters from all his books, from different races/timelines/planets/story lines/etc., it's like an extra "Easter egg" to recognize something from a previously read story.
Looking forward to Mt Fitzroy, though!

Historia
A wonderful tale of a young man’s coming of age, Zorba the Greek has been a classic of world literature since it was first translated into English in 1952 and made into an unforgettable movie with Anthony Quinn. Zorba, an irrepressible, earthy hedonist, sweeps his young disciple along as he wines, dines, and loves his way through a life dedicated to fulfilling his copious appetites. Zorba is irresistible in this charming audio production by veteran narrator George Guidall.

I don't get it
Revisado: 12-11-17
I feel like I missed something here. The narration was great, I loved his voice for Zorba. But the story itself felt... lacking depth. One character trying to be existential, one character just living life "in the moment" with no regard to worries about the larger picture. An excerpt of a man's life in which he meets someone who has an affect on him. But otherwise, it felt like reading a diary. Daily ramblings. Nothing tieing it all together. Very abrupt ending. Feels like the author said "okay, this is a good spot to end it", and started killing off characters in quick succession.
This was highly recommended to me and I just don't see why it's supposedly "so great". I would have not completed it if it weren't for the raving reviews, I kept thinking "well, it must get better..."
No such luck.
