Historia
Two lonely towns in Colorado: Hope and Despair. Between them, 12 miles of empty road. Jack Reacher never turns back. It's not in his nature. All he wants is a cup of coffee. What he gets is big trouble. So in Lee Child’s electrifying new novel, Reacher - a man with no fear, no illusions, and nothing to lose - goes to war against a town that not only wants him gone, it wants him dead. It wasn’t the welcome Reacher expected. He was just passing through, minding his own business. But within minutes of his arrival a deputy is in the hospital and Reacher is back in Hope.

Is this Reacher?
Revisado: 08-29-24
I read a review that said they liked this episode because Reacher had evolved (code word for went liberal). They use that word to make it sound like the new ideas are better. They are not. As a retired soldier, I cannot support deserters and do not believe for a second that a real soldier with Reacher's experience would either. I will continue the series because I have loved every other episode until this one. It wasn't just the character change, but the storyline was too slow and convoluted to the point of confusion - even at the end. I wish I had skipped this one. I will try the next and see how it goes.

Historia
Stranded in the Amazon rainforest, a lost man fights for survival and discovers that the root of evil doesn’t just reside in the world’s darkest corners, but inside the hearts of all mankind. Dr. Gregory Zekser is on a mission to visit the furthest reaches of the Amazon, providing medical aid to recently contacted tribes. As a general practitioner and food pantry director, his life in Massachusetts can be chaotic, but serving people is what he does best, and he doesn’t mind sacrificing his personal life to help others, at home or halfway around the world.

Not bad, not great, very original
Revisado: 05-13-23
I like the story, it was an easy listen and something to take my mind off the road when I was traveling. There were some unrealistic parts of the story, but I read fiction to be entertained, not necessarily educated, so it worked out well for me.

Historia
On the eve of turning 30, terrified of being funneled into a life he didn’t choose, Jedidiah Jenkins quit his dream job and spent 16 months cycling from Oregon to Patagonia. He chronicled the trip on Instagram, where his photos and reflections drew hundreds of thousands of followers, all gathered around the question: What makes a life worth living? In this unflinchingly honest memoir, Jed narrates his adventure - the people and places he encountered on his way to the bottom of the world - as well as the internal journey that started it all.

Nice travel log, but not a biking story
Revisado: 03-17-23
This is a nice book about traveling to new places and new experiences, but I was looking for a book about biking. In this book, biking is just a side note.

Mal wins an old map in a card game. Ancient and written in impenetrable symbols, the former owner insists it's worthless. Yet River Tam can read it, and says it leads to one of the Arks - legendary ships that brought humans from Earth-that-was to the 'Verse. The salvage potential alone is staggering. But the closer they get to the ancient ship, the more agitated River becomes.

Historia
When Marshall McEwan left his hometown at age 18, he vowed never to return. The trauma that drove him away ultimately spurred him to become one of the most successful journalists in Washington DC. But just as the political chaos in the nation’s capital lifts him to new heights, Marshall is forced to return home in spite of his boyhood vow. His father is dying, his mother is struggling to keep the family newspaper from failing, and the town is in the midst of an economic rebirth that might be built upon crimes that reach into the state capitol - and perhaps even to Washington.

At least a third too long
Revisado: 06-20-20
This is an excellent story and a great narration. HOWEVER, way to much time is spent exploring every aspect, of every trauma, of every character, especially anything to do with sex, in graphic detail. I got to the point halfway through the book where I dreaded when a character would say something like, "I have only a couple of minutes but there is something I have to tell you." Inevitably, the next hour of the book on tape would explore this revelation - turning an interesting and important point into a boring treatise. Also, the book contains too much political stuff with the hero being a flaming liberal (as are all the good people in the book) and all the bad folks are far right, bigoted conservatives. The reason I gave the book three stars is because the real story of the book, i.e., a journalist fighting the good fight, is worth suffering through the other bull pucky. Did I say great narrator?

Historia
Over 12,000 helicopters were used in the Vietnam War, which is why it became known as "The Helicopter War". Almost half of the helicopters, 5,086, were lost. This memoir describes first-hand the harrowing experiences of helicopter pilots and crews in combat operations, from the far South to the DMZ, including the infamous Ashau Valley, Hamburger Hill, LZ Airborne, and others. 19 Minutes to Live illustrates the incredible courage and determination of helicopter pilots and crews supporting those heroes that carried a rucksack and a rifle in Vietnam.

A lot more than just war stories
Revisado: 07-08-19
This book is a lot more than just war stories as the author delves into the history and politics of the "Helicopter War." Those background stories tie the combat stories together and give the book more depth and meaning. The stories are not only the adventures of the author but also of those he knew and served with - some of them tragic. Well written and researched, Hard to put down.

Best Correia since Monster Hunter
Revisado: 01-13-19
I was a big fan of Correia until he started the team authored books, then I stopped reading/listening and waited. Now with his book Tom Stranger, I am back. This book is hilarious. I loved the characters, the humor, and the politics. Now I'm back to wanting more. (I still want more Monster Hunter but this is a great fix...until).

Rating by a pilot and cop
Revisado: 10-25-17
I love the Longmire series and I love the narration style of George Guidall. This book, however, struck a chord with me. The story feels real and the technicalities of the flying are dead on. A couple of times Guidall spoke "aviation" in a way that didn't sound like an aviator was saying it (pronunciation). It was not distracting, however - even to a pilot. This is a great story, just the right length, and well worth your time...aviator or not.

Historia
Emma Gatewood told her family she was going on a walk and left her small Ohio hometown with a change of clothes and less than $200. The next anybody heard from her, this genteel, farm-reared, 67-year-old great-grandmother had walked 800 miles along the 2,050-mile Appalachian Trail. And in September 1955, atop Maine's Mount Katahdin, she sang the first verse of "America, the Beautiful" and proclaimed, "I said I'll do it, and I've done it."

I learned a lot from Grandma
Revisado: 07-03-16
The best books build characters we come to love or hate and give us the reasons why. In this book two characters are beautifully developed...Grandma Gatewood and the Appalachian Trail. I came to love them both.
The story is well written and wonderfully descriptive. The main characters (the trail and Grandma) are both fully developed through description, adventure and the history that made them who they were.
Well worth the listen.

This is not good as an audio book
Revisado: 06-18-16
I found this audiobook difficult because there are so many exercises and illustrations that are needed to make sense of the techniques. It is more of a workbook than a listen. However, the information is valuable for every runner, so just get the real book.
