Meh
Revisado: 12-18-20
A well-performed typical murder mystery set among the English upper class. Fun, but not mentally taxing. The characters are shallow, self absorbed and a bit silly.

Different is bad!
Revisado: 03-28-18
What a lovely book, thank you John Oliver! Its simple story has a great lesson attached without being overwhelming. Or liberal preachy. The wonderful cast sounds like they had a good time on this project. And yeah, it will piss off Mike Pence if you buy this- plus the proceeds go to great causes.... double bonus.

The changing west
Revisado: 02-10-18
An elderly respected ex solider is commissioned to take former Kiowa captive, 10 yr old Johanna, back to her people across post-Civil War Texas. The West is changing, the frontier is quickly being fenced and tamed. But as dangerous as the journey may be, the real danger may wait for them at the end of the road. The narration was excellent, the story drew me in and is written in a simple, easy-to-listen-to style. I enjoyed this book and will probably read it again in 6 months.

Chilly mystery
Revisado: 02-03-18
Aleut Kate Shugak is a very interesting detective character. Solving horrible crimes with one foot in the modern world and one in the wilderness, she's smart but damaged. The story line really had me strung along and guessing to the end. Everyone had motives, but for all different reasons. The narration was spot on. I highly recommend this book and the series is going in my wish list.

I expected more
Revisado: 01-31-18
A typical detective story about a kidnapped teen, a shallow no-brainer with a quickly obvious plot and cast of villians. Because it was told from the detective's dog/partner's perspective, I was expecting something more innovative. The dog character Chet was anthropomorphized and frankly, based on heavily cliqued traits. The detective character Bernie was like so many in the genre: likable but screwed over by an ex, broke, regretful and missing his kid. Oh yeah, let's not forget the required cop friend and reporter friend/possible love interest of the genre, too. The story was written in short simple sentences that seemed aimed for an eighth grade reading level. The writing style made the narration choppy and the many pregnant pauses made me think I was experiencing wifi glitches. This book could've been great, but was just an all around disappointment.

Impressive historical drama
Revisado: 12-07-17
Portrays colonial lives and the Revolutionary struggle towards independence. Lizzie the midwife and her circle of hard working friends are heroes as they do their part while the men are away or have been killed in battle. Intrigue, cross dressing, self doubt, laughter, and babies (sometimes bastards) fill this fast moving story. Well written in the vernacular of the day. The narration is spot on.

Historia
In a warren of crumbling buildings and desperate people called the Old City, there stands a hospital with cinderblock walls that echo the screams of the poor souls inside. In the hospital, there is a woman. Her hair, once blond, hangs in tangles down her back. She doesn't remember why she's in such a terrible place. Just a tea party long ago, and long ears, and blood.

Dark, dark, creepy dark
Revisado: 09-24-17
Alice in Wonderland this ain't! This twisted telling is filled with magic as well as blood, gore and horrific abuse of women, the least of all is rape. Not a tale for the kiddies. The story did suck me in and the narration is excellent. I plan to listen to the next installment of this series soon because I really grew to like the two main characters of Alice and Hatcher.

Historia
With a thriving parahuman accounting practice, a steady relationship, and a circle of trusted friends, Fred's undead life has become more enjoyable than his normal one ever was. Unfortunately it also seems that he's no longer the only vampire to appreciate the up-and-coming city of Winslow, Colorado. A new clan of vampires is moving in, and they aren't well known for tolerating outsiders in their territory.

Revisado: 04-20-17
In this third installment, Fred and Crystal take a wonderful vacation. Later him and the gang fight a vampire clan trying to take over Winslow. The story has a rather anti-climatic (but effective) ending that leaves plenty of questions for their next adventures. As usual, great narration.
