Historia
Tara moves to the American South three years after her arranged marriage to tech executive Sanjay. Ignored and lonely, Tara finds herself regressing back to childhood memories that have scarred her for life. When she was eight, her parents had left her behind with her aging grandparents and a schizophrenic uncle in Mangalore, while taking her baby brother with them to make a new life for the family in Dubai. Tara's memories of abandonment and isolation mirror her present life of loneliness and escalating abuse at the hands of her husband.

Absolutely horrendous narration
Revisado: 04-05-23
The story by Veena Rao was interesting, although the characters were more or less the usual Indian caricatures- and that too from 20 years ago.
The narrator....I am astounded that Jeed Saddy mispronounced every single word of Indian origin starting with "Amma". moving on to Uncle Anand and Grandpa Madhava- never mind words like "Rajagopuram" or "Bharatha Natyam". Everything was rendered with great gusto in American phonetics and sounded ridiculous. I am even more astounded that she didn't know how to pronounce "Dubai" instead pronouncing it as Dubey... Did Veena Rao not listen to the narration?
It seems slipshod and disrespectful to not even attempt to pronounce Indian names and words correctly.

Then tragedy strikes, and Vidya and her brother are forced to move into a traditional household with their extended family, where women are meant to be married, not educated. Breaking the rules, Vidya finds refuge in her grandfather’s library. But then her brother does something unthinkable, and Vidya’s life becomes a whirlwind of political and personal complications. The question is, will she be strong enough to survive?

Good story- absolutely horrible performance
Revisado: 01-05-23
The story was very good, bringing to life an era and a culture beautifully.
The pronunciation by Sumeet Bharathi was indescribably horrible. It sounded like a parody from Saturday Night Live. Could she not taken some effort to learn the names - Ponni not Pony, Raman not Rumun, Kitta not Keetha- and festival names like Krishna Jayanthi?
Disrespectful and sloppy.

Historia
Layla Roy has defied the fates. Despite being born under an inauspicious horoscope, she is raised to be educated and independent by her eccentric grandfather, Dadamoshai. And, by cleverly manipulating the hand fortune has dealt her, she has even found love with Manik Deb - a man betrothed to another. All were minor miracles in India that spring of 1943, when young women's lives were predetermined - if not by the stars, then by centuries of family tradition and social order.

Truly atrocious pronunciation
Revisado: 05-07-22
The story is quite interesting- writing and characterization are good and show the author’s skill. But the audible performance was horrible. Every word of Indian origin was butchered. I don’t understand how the narrator didn’t take the slightest effort to learn how to pronounce even one Indian word- and how the author thought this was a good presentation of her work.

A beautiful and deeply moving exploration of the Ramayana
Revisado: 02-13-22
A beautiful, thoughtful and insightful exploration of the Ramayana drawing from versions from various times, regions and philosophies. Anand Neelakantan’s reflections on the meaning and lessons of the Ramayana explore the timeless tale much beyond Good versus Evil- indeed showing us how we may perhaps understand life and ourselves in the lessons of the Ramayana. What started as a casual listen turned into a wonderful experience!

Careless performance
Revisado: 01-28-22
The story was gripping enough. However, the performer should have had the respect to make at least a minimum effort to learn how to pronounce Indian names. The Indian accent was bizarre at best- sounded like a parody on Saturday Night Live. I can’t believe this was actually deemed good enough to charge money for.
