Revisado: 06-29-24
Mr. Wilson gives you fully realized characters. So realized that you feel like old friends you are finally making time to reconnect with. But how well do you actually know them?
I love that the author forces us to choose our loyalties and then makes us live with our choices right up to the end.
A choose your own adventure with possibly dark consequences.

An amazing story of any genre.
Revisado: 06-26-24
I can't help but wonder who touched Mr. Wilson and gave him the gift of storytelling.
This novel, like everything with his name on it, is guaranteed to hold your attention from beginning to end.
It is filled with characters that you easily begin to see in situations you can not wait to see how they deal with.
I love how he has such a knack for creating a character that you judge quickly and then, just like life, learn there is far more to them than you considered. I enjoy the idea of feeling apologetic to a fictional person for judging them too quickly and too harshly.

"Something is murdering my men." Thus reads the message received from a Nazi commander stationed in a small castle high in the remote Transylvanian Alps. Invisible and silent, the enemy selects one victim per night, leaving the bloodless and mutilated corpses behind to terrify its future victims. When an elite SS extermination squad is dispatched to solve the problem, the men find something that's both powerful and terrifying. Panicked, the Nazis bring in a local expert on folklore - who just happens to be Jewish - to shed some light on the mysterious happenings.

Does an author know when they write something destined to be magical?
Revisado: 06-13-24
The Keep has been a personal favorite book for about as long as I can remember.
Part of the reason that I seem to seek it out every few years is that, like the music of The Beatles, there are some stories that feel like they were waiting to be written down. Like they exist in some magic place where muses watch over fools and once in a while, they allow an idea to take root in the mind of a daydreamer that will give a pause to everyone who reads it. Just a moment long enough for the first-time reader to wonder how this story hadn't been written before and then one more second of pride for choosing the book in the first place (truth be told, maybe one half-second more for those of us in Love with the written word to curse Mr. Wilson for being in our spot when that damned muse threw out this particular gem.)
Anyway, I'm glad that someone caught this gift and that they were in a position to share it with the world.
Do yourself a favor and check out this story that feels like historical fiction of an already dark time now twice dragged through a nightmare.

Gene Wilder is one of the great comic actors who defined the 1970s and 1980s in movies. From his work with Woody Allen, to the rich group of movies he made with Mel Brooks, to his partnership on screen with Richard Pryor, Wilder's performances are still discussed and celebrated today.

Gene Wilder had a heart as big as you'd imagine it would be. He also possesses the ability to put the way he sees the world into words that border on poetry. wonderful autobiography. Not a tell all, but a glimpse into a manchild's heart. Well done sir. It's obvious that lived happily ever after.

Brilliant!
Revisado: 12-22-23
So little is known about the War Doctor. Finally, we get the story leading up to how the Doctor took the full weight and responsibility of ending the Time War.
The choices the author made were absolutely inspired. There were places that I actually realized I had been holding my breath.
Nicholas Briggs does exactly what he does best. His naration doesn't feel like someone reading you a book half as much as it feels like one man brilliantly pulling off the best radio drama ever.
If you are on the fence or curious take a chance. You will NOT regret it.
I know I will be listening to this book again and again.

This is real story about a real bloak doing really amazing things.
Revisado: 11-25-23
Brian is you or me. He is a working man with a dream just powerful enough that he never gave up on it. You feel like for him, well he's just telling his story -- but for us, it's an adventure with a real-life action star.
First, I could listen to Brian narrate the phone book. If he wouldn't have found his dream in the spotlight I'm pretty sure he would have eventually found himself reading something like Doctor Who audiobooks for the BBC. You just want him to tell you stories.
Second, I don't think even Brian knows his gift for folksy humor and easy reliability.
Third, wrap all that in the helter-skelter madness of the rock music scene and you have got electricity. Just the type you'd want from the lead better of AC/DC.
Fourth...the man jumped out of perfectly good planes to buy a PA system. The least we can do is listen to this book.

Once more into the 'Verse.
Revisado: 08-03-23
If you love Firefly then each book in this series has been a gift. However, this book really stands out. By this point the author, Una McCormack by name, has really got the hearts and the voices of our beloved Big Damn Heroes down. Using the two narrators really kept it fresh and the voices worked so well that I found myself forgetting it wasn't Mal laying out a tale for us. I've really enjoyed each book from this series but this one felt the most like an episode that I somehow missed. I truly, truly hope that this is just one more in a lot more to come.

A Masterful Tale...Again
Revisado: 06-15-23
Neil Gaiman's mastery of words and his ability to pull the reader into his worlds prove there are still examples of Fate at work in this universe.
The only hard part of one of Neil's stories is the ending. Certainly not because of quality or content, but because you simply aren't ready to leave this new world he has presented you with. You've made friends there and many, like Bod and Silas, are far too dear to just leave to your memory.

Count on Neil Gaiman
Revisado: 01-03-23
Neil continues to pull together the best voices to bring to life his incredible stories.
The Sandman has always felt, to me, like Mr. Gaiman taking a try at his own House of Mystery (maybe it's just the brothers showing up), and he does it brilliantly. This volume plays perfectly across the movie screen in my brain and even hits me right in the feels (pay particular attention to John Lithgow...i cried).

Brilliantly performed from perfect source material
Revisado: 12-30-22
I should, by now, expect no less than incredible from Neil Gaiman. Doubly so when that material was the first step that the author built upon to carry him to a place alongside authors who's work will live forever.
This audio drama is all I could have ever asked for. The scripts are so faithful to the comics and so perfectly portrayed by the cast that they fit perfectly with movie in my head that starts everytime you pick up art by the best authors.
