it is getting worse and worse
Revisado: 03-30-25
The main character is soooo stupid, i knew the enemy was his brother, and i didn't see their faces to compare... You meet some nice ppl and a b!tch so you decide, this must be some evil-good war, as if she was around 5 years old. She supposed to be almost 30, less than a year to get the 3rd X and still an idiot.
I would have brought Rhonda into trayel for treasury by reaveling the masked prince "You shall not marry a princess. ... while it is common knowledge, that the younges prince of the kingdom is a baking nerd" and what kind of magical sociaty cannot afford a posion taster, if they are so despised by the "Bad Lands Army" I mean, if the book were for 5 years old, yeah make wars to be between good and evil, but man, it is about money and power, none of the sides are better or worse, they are just greedy humans, using the powerless as pawns...
And why must be the police-justice persons always be total morons in this kind of series? It is bad enough, that the author is payed by the pages and explain every little joke, so they can have 2 extra lines, everytime there are an oportunity for "nostalgia".
As someone, who actually works in a bakery, Imagen is at least dellusional, but i dare to say, she has some kind of illnes, fallen into a coma and the book is just a long dream; because i can forgive her to be so blind at times and so ... i don't think even a person with menthal disabilities, like bad cases of autismus, where they hardly can speak, would conclude, that a murderer disquises himself in front of everybody for a few seconds, when he is practising for the big show at the last day of the competition. And what kind of masochisti person want to wake up in the middle of the night to back bread... All of my coworkers hate it, bigger companies fries everything, so the stuff don't need to wake up that early... It is proven by studies that waking without sunlight is bad for your menthal health. There are ppl, who have to do it, but they don't enjoy that part, i'm sure. I hoped to be convinced i'm wrong, but the author just has no clue, what is to be a baker at all.
Iggy could be a nice character as Calcifer, i really wanted to love him. BUT he is an a$$hole and when Imagen finally is verbaly abusive with him, he just get all love and nice and friendship and rainbows... -.-; In a real situtaion, if a rebel could have be inside the royal bakery, they would have killed the king and his family, not the old lady, making the bread... And why aren't they scanned? I mean in real political issues, if you have positions, it means, you are always under surveillance; just to be sure, you are on the good side and don't have anything to hide and allow black mailer to do ther dirty work... Or at least it wouldn't be so in a spotlight, that this royal baker thing is a big deal, being able to put poison in any food... With those kind of police, you just need to use some long run poison and case closed as some kind of genetic illnes...
I am really struggling, i wanted to like this book, but i guess i cannot finish it, i hate it minute by minute more.

Anoying characters
Revisado: 01-21-25
Sooooo, they should have been the bestest best siblings in the universe, i mean i would have hated to share a room with my little bro, i mean literally he was kicked out of our room, when my puberty arrived, although in adult head, he was most likely too young to be alone in a room, but he was a boy and we were girls. I mean, of course we spoke after that; and if our parents would have died or disappeared.. still no more roomies, girls room and boys room, i don't think foster cares allow mixed rooms either, but fortunatelly no experience that way.
Than that school dorm thing... He's an annoying brat, i would have taken back all the magic i gave him, if he is not going to tell me about his feelings, days, bullies... I just cannot believe there was never a passive aggressive outburst before the seamstress incident; but according to the book, he was the perfect boy before that and only his friends were asking his big sis for help. I love strong female characters, but she is just a self-announced hero. 14 year old boy should not share a room with his 17 years old sis, and if she is having sex and babies, the 30 year old little brother must be still in the room, or what? I mean, okay, sick people in need of therapy, but without any professional help, but than make them the villain; because it is not something you should want to encourage. Give them a therapist or something if they must be positive characters.
First he wants to go home, than he wants all of the magic. I understand, that he wants his parents back, I think it is messed up, that the dad is the same, but the mom gets a new body, why? And I would have been happier, if she was keen to learn about it, parallel universe, where they still live and with help of magic, understand, their children need them in another universe. But just simply telling my little brother, who is 14, so not a moron anymore, but I treat him, as he was a 5 year old moron, in that case I would at least promise, that I will force my teachers to tell me about those things, if they are real or if the new friends of my bro are really so messed up bad boys, that they would lie about it, or would suggest some really dark and dangerous magic. But noooo, she must act like a wise old woman “let the past go, or it makes you insane, you cannot change it”. I would at least hope, if angels and vampires are real, ghosts are too and my parents have them, in case they are like in Harry Potter, where James, Lily and Sirius were not exactly brave, but also selfish, not staying there for Harry… And instead of beginning to research the options of meeting their dead family, they begin to fight for her abilities. I think it is sick, that they are in love with the boy, who should take away her powers.. I mean it could have been nice, but he was a jerk at the beginning and I would say the build up was more like a boy, playing with an orphan’s feelings, not true love, which overpowers the magical politic…
I begin to listen to this title because of the virtual voice, I hate when characters whisper and shout after another and I have earbuds on… Yeah, it is kind of annoying, when the voice if buffering or idk how to name the unreasonable pauses in the middle of sentence, and I have sometimes difficulties to understand who is saying what, but i am satisfied with it, i was choosing extra virtaul voice story. The plot and the main character is just annoying, it could be interesting, I think it is a really nice original idea, but … I am glad it was a free title, I would hate to spend a credit for it.

Well...
Revisado: 12-26-24
Maybe my sense of humor is just rusty, but i missed all the comedy parts. I found it annoying, that Molly is sooo dumb... i mean okay, maybe it is not crazy to think her sis has an abusive relationship, but not even thinking for a bit, she might be pregnant? It wasn't the first time, she saw her boyfriend/husband either, and getting so much money from the ... i mean it could have had at least a bit of magic inside.. maybe a murder, with those creepy decoration... idk, anything could make this story a bit more enjoyable... at least it wasn't triggering like a real "controlling husband - as an outsider (friend, relative) you cannot do anything just watch" story could have turned into. I'm glad it was a free book. Idk how it got so many good reviews...

Missing the paranolmal parts...
Revisado: 12-02-24
i don't know, maybe something wrong with me, but the first chapters were kind of magicless for me, a bad romantic novel... i mean, i can imagine a woman puking next to the toilet on somebody, who is coming out from the stall, but still...
and nobody is disturbed, SPOILER that the ghost could make Clark be sick enough to leave the house, but suddenly as our protagonist Riley began to live there, they were not only unable to scare away a burglar, but they couldn't even see him... and the fake job interview thing... just such an awful romantic story move... if it weren't free for membership, i would be very disappointed wasting credit on this title...

Historia
It’s two months before Amelia’s big audition for the Mystwick School of Musicraft. If she gets in, she will learn to spin music into powerful magic - but her Gran has one last-ditch plan to persuade her out of it: sports camp. A week of softball, sprinting, and sweaty socks isn't exactly Amelia’s idea of a good time - in fact, she's deeply, appallingly unathletic. By the end of day one, she’s puked her guts out in track, gotten a black eye in no-contact flag football, and firmly established herself as the Least Valuable Player at camp.

Could have been better
Revisado: 05-17-24
I understand, the camp should be a place for magicless to be themselves, but to let the be in pain, although there is healing magic... And to give extra muscle pain to the musclesless, who were forced to be at camp, without even a normal sport masseur?
Spoiler
I find it amazing, that finally somebody reminds us, that children shouldn't be more experienced as professional adults; but still they were trying to use magic, and none of them realised, they don't have the flute with them, while looking for the center of the curse?
Ok, it would be a story in a week, but still a day could have been described longer, like Thomas Mann in The magic montain, first day 25 pages...

Although i haven't listened to/read the 8th and 9th book yet.

***
I just cannot accept, why the heck would somebody in their right mind first go to mayor Knightsbridge and give her the potion without having the antipotion first??? I mean, i would accept, because Emma is kind of a fairy-tale princess, being 100% good and all, that Daniel humiliated the Knightsbridge family and Elsa was heartbroken, like Emma because of Daniel, the law is too strict... etc. BUT Emma doesn't want Elsa to miss judgement and punishment for drugging Daniel, so that story-line is kind of dump... I hate that her being a sorceress was revealed in a jealousy way... I think in that situation Emma should have been summoned to curt, because she must have made some kind of dark magic being a sorceress and all, and Daniel's true love could be Elsa... The end of the previous book was also without love potion a beginning of a love story with a second chance. And i mean for a fairy i don't know, how long they live, but what should been the rush for Daniel to the wedding? At least a fake pregnancy would make it better. But until she found the potion, it was just Emma is possessed with Daniel, with nothing just "it must be fate, that Daniel belongs to me". OK it is kind of a fairy tale story, but... Other characters have bad marriages, affairs... At least she should have argued, why the sudden rush to marry, why not take things slow the second time?
And the other line with the young murderer, i would think at least, the girl would been a total wreck after accidentally killing a troll, and if not becoming numb than ask for help in the hope, he is still alive. Or at least this book had him to be the perfect soulmate of his wife; just to make it clear, Emma is not total coocoo with her obsession about Daniel... Emma could have defend the poor child for not wanting to kill or harm the troll, but being an accident with no witnesses, and in the end of the story Walter could have woken up from her dream clearing the whole thing... In case Anya was going to get help like anybody with a brain would do. And if not i still think she should be so much destroyed with her head to cry with tears because somebody asked her something, or being total silent, spending both of the days in bed stating she has a headache at least, and not eating, just starring at the wall, or overeating; any kind of signs of depression... OR she could have been portrayed as a total psychopath, who does not understand anything, she wasn't going to kill, it was an accident, nobody's fault, trolls die, it was Walter's turn, and only a coincident Anya was even there...
I still like the characters, except Emma's obsession. OK maybe i am envious a bit, because every time i was obsessed with anybody, none of my friend told me, i do not agree with you, but i try to help you, if you want, let's stalk him together, until we get arrested because it is wrong and i am right. Or am i the only one thinking, that Emma just broke into a house, where might as well lived two without love potion in love couple... Daniel wanted to be a better angel! Elsa loved her, he could have thought he owes her a second chance, not only focusing on the body, but the soul of Elsa... Yeah, i hated this book, i would give it a star or less, but i like the characters, so i gave it 2 stars.

last book has less and less sense...
Revisado: 05-06-24
It is a fun book, and i am really grateful audible made it into plus catalog; because i am not a native English speaker, but i listen to most of the books with 2x-2,5x faster than the "normal" reading speed. And I do not want to give a credit for 2 hours fun. I mean there are series (not as good as this), which take me 30 hours and cost also only a credit...
I mean the first book was published on 7 January 2017 the last book 15 February 2018; it is not children book with many pictures, helping the reader to get used to (love) read(ing). Rick Riordan took a year to create a new book for Percy Jackson series, although it was young adult stuff. It is also a bit annoying to be reminded, what have happened in a book i was listening to a few days before and if i were to read as much as i did in high school, it would drive me crazy, "yes Annabel, your last book was only 200 pages, of course i remember, why the f... are you filling n amount of words explaining something, which literally happened 50 pages/a month ago, your readers are not senile".
I like that the Dr. Hall finally does something for Emma, the previous books were more like Emma is Dr. Hall's therapist and i hated, that Emma did not quit. I mean i would be more depressed after the first few sections, and the alcohol bit... My childhood trauma relates to alcoholism. So in Emma's case i would just conclude i am a crybaby and everything is okay with me, Dr. Hall had it worse... Alfea had been a better therapist, than the doc... I hate, that she sees all those stuff being adopted and all, but not talking about it with Gareth or Daniel or class mates... I mean i can understand, sometimes it takes me weeks to be able to speak about something, but it is a book, in which characters die almost every month. Between two murder could be more chapters spent on the therapy and learning sessions, a half sentence "we mastered the new spell in 5 weeks" "oh i have been here for a year and no clue, how to break the curse or at least where to look for a solution". I understand that part of the curse could be that nobody shall look for the spell, which would lift the curse; but still it is like they could have solved the problem in a week, if the whole town was dealing with the problem...
I really hoped, this book would be longer with more stuff about Emma's past and time passing in the story without a death.
The invisibility part was just annoying; why would you break a spell after an hour, when you are among vampires? If they had messed up in the previous book and Daniel had seen her with the potion, it could have been a funny plot twist; but now, being afraid, that too much use of the same spell would mean worse than being invisible a whole day long. She is a sorceress, with more magic, than a witch capable of... Why should have been the third time been the charm killing her? Instead of have an unnecessary knight, whom we'd known already is a nice guy...
But despite all of its flaws, i really like the book: the childish miracle of a lonely looser, who wants friends and love, but isn't able to find matching socks, finding herself as the most desired woman among supernaturals... I wish i was reading this series when i was younger, when i still believed in similar wonders.

Amber Sand is not a witch. The Sand family Wicca gene somehow leapfrogged over her. But she did get one highly specific magical talent: she can see true love. As a matchmaker, Amber's pretty far down the sorcery food chain (even birthday party magicians rank higher), but after five seconds of eye contact, she can envision anyone's soul mate. Amber works at her mother's magic shop - Windy City Magic - in downtown Chicago, and she's confident she's seen every kind of happy ending there is: except for one - her own.

i loved it
Revisado: 04-21-21
I finished all 3 books, and all are cute, the love drama is more realistic, than in most of YA novels I've ever read. I would love to hear more about other magical creatures with more magical power. For me it is also the uniqueness of the book to see an "under" average (having no magic although her mother may be one of the greatest witch in the county) girl accepting who she is and not having a fairy tale happy, where everything becomes perfect at the end. I like a good detective story with little romance and magic.
