Wowza!
Revisado: 03-09-25
I adore JDKirks work. I was ready to set in and love this from the start. I have to keep reminding myself that the author is male, that he can credibly write about deep grief and sorrow from a woman’s point of view is amazing. I was part way through - then the story took a different direction, one I was not expecting, one that is not my typical cup of tea. To be a good author is to keep a person in the story even if they would not have chosen to be. Very well written. I was guessing the whole time. There is suspense, drama, humor, grief, and tears right up to the end. I don’t post spoilers. Oh, the narrators were superb! Thank you for another great book!

Disappointed
Revisado: 11-08-24
I am a reader that does not give up. I tried to like and root for the main character, Emily. I know a good series gets really good a few books in once all the introductions are done and characters develop. This series was a real disappointment and it could be so good. From the first book when Emily said she played ping pong with a sister that never appeared again to the flip flopping between 2 men that she wreaked havoc on. She is a deeply flawed woman who is also her own worst enemy. She is clearly lost after the death of both parents and never really allowed herself to find out who she really was. She needed to define herself by the man beside her not by her own worth. I wanted to love this series, but all I can say is I am disappointed.

Hook, line, and sinker
Revisado: 09-16-24
The story of a DCI in Scotland being pulled back into his case that was never over for him. The plot twists, the characters, the relationships, dialogue, and humor are the perfect ingredients for the first book that keeps the reader interested and wanting to learn more about these characters and their stories. Jack Logan is self aware that he is gruff and flawed. His personal relationships have suffered his marriage to the job, the need for justice for the victims and survivors, and his past struggles with alcohol. The narrator, Angus King, is amazing with the different accents and sexes of the characters. I adore his style and hope he remains with these characters to the end. I recommend this book to all of my friends and family. I have listened to the entire series thus far 3 times. JD Kirk has fast become my favorite author. I’m in North Dakota and learned a lot about Scotlands police, police’s, and cultures.

Wonderful story
Revisado: 08-18-24
Joy Ellis has a unique way of writing that engages the reader/listener to the end. This story is not what I was used to from this author, however it was fun and interesting. I look forward to the second installment.

First Matt Ballard Story
Revisado: 05-12-24
I adore Joy Ellis. I have all of DI Rowan and DI Galena stories and love the characters and their stories. However, I feel the combination of the narrator and/or the flow of the story made it difficult for me to truly invest my time and emotion to these characters. I found myself rewinding 30 seconds to confirm who was actually speaking or that the story moved to a different location. It was just a lot of effort to “make” myself love another DI team. All that being said, the story line, once established and moving, was a good. I also love the characters that make cameos from the other series. I remember I was cheering the first time Rory showed up in DI Galenas books! I do not leave spoilers, and I hope people do not look at this as a negative review because I wait to review stories until I’ve been through them all and I feel if you stick with it you will not be wasting your time. I would have liked the first one to not have holes in the story and tie things up in the end so sloppily. Joy Ellis is absolutely one of my most favorite authors, I will continue to devour anything she puts out. It is because of this relationship I have with her characters that I put so much into sticking with this story when other times I may have moved on.

Excellent series
Revisado: 03-17-24
The coupling of Joy Ellis and Richard Armitage is wonderful and exciting. This whole series of Jackman and Evan’s is very well written and captivating. Mr. Armitages narration keeps the listener engaged. I can only hear DI Jackman in his voice. I would love to write about the story details but I do not like spoilers as someone who reads reviews. The characters have been fleshed out nicely in the prior books. I have become invested in these stories and wait for the next adventure. As a US resident I enjoyed learning the differences in our legal systems. I appreciate the respect Ms. Ellis has for her readers by being well researched for her story lines. I truly recommend this series. It will never disappoint!

Beckett: If you’re reading this, well, you know the last-letter drill. You made it. I didn’t. Get off the guilt train, because I know if there was any chance you could have saved me, you would have. I need one thing from you: get out of the army and get to Telluride. My little sister Ella’s raising the twins alone. She’s too independent and won’t accept help easily, but she has lost our grandmother, our parents, and now me. It’s too much for anyone to endure. And here’s the kicker: there’s something else you don’t know that’s tearing her family apart.
