Historia
Was the biggest case of his career the worst mistake he ever made? Ten years ago, DCI Jack Logan stopped the serial child-killer dubbed "Mister Whisper", earning himself a commendation, a drinking problem, and a broken marriage in the process...When another child disappears a hundred miles north in the Highlands, Jack is sent to lead the investigation and bring the boy home. But as similarities between the two cases grow, could it be that Jack caught the wrong man all those years ago?

High hopes dashed: not just a little bit of child and animal torture

This story has an interesting plot and the narrator does a fine job with tempo and inflection.
Revisado: 09-04-24
The plot shows some imagination and the story’s setting in Scotland adds interest. That said, the characters are stereotypical for a crime novel. Readers who like that type of boilerplate might add a star to the rating, but those looking for interesting, nuanced, or complex characters will not find them here. The author does capture some of the banter one finds in law enforcement or military environments, but the attendent profanity sounds like the sound track from my worst carpentry project ever.

Historia
The forest of Broceliande, with its picturesque lakes and castles, is the last remnant of the fairy kingdom, if Breton lore is to be believed. Innumerable legends spanning thousands of years are set here, including the tale of King Arthur and the Round Table. It seems to be an appropriate destination for Commissaire Dupin and his team to take a late summer field trip. But when the body of a historian turns up, Dupin is called upon to investigate in the brutal murder case. Before too long, there are more victims.

Interesting Story Line
Revisado: 06-14-23
The arc of the story is as good as any in the murder mystery genre and will probably appeal to fans of this series, those with an interest in the middle ages, and those intrigued by Brittany’s connections to the Celtic world.
Two changes would have made this a better product:
* The narrator has a flat American accent and has little variation for the characters save one, for whom he uses a British accent that, considering the characters are French, comes across as odd.
* The text is translated very closely to the original French but would have benefitted in several areas by using words and phases more typical of native English speakers.

Historia
The old salt farmers have always said that the violet scent of the Fleur de Sel at harvest time on the salt marshes of the Guerande Peninsula has been known to cause hallucinations. Commissaire Dupin also starts to believe this when he's attacked out of the blue in the salt works. He had actually been looking forward to escaping his endless paperwork and taking a trip to the "white country" between the raging Atlantic Ocean and idyllic rivers.

Love this French Mystery Series!
Revisado: 06-16-20
This is my third book in this series. I adored the first two books, and I loved this story, but, unfortunately, not the narrator, who is not French like the reader of the first two books. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE bring back the original reader, who made the first two books magical and made me feel as though I were truly in Brittany enjoying a great adventure.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first three novels in this entertaining series by Karen Baugh Menuhin. Chock-full of drama, suspense, and humor, I did’t want them to end and can’t wait for more to appear on Audible. Also love, love, love narrator Sam Dewhurst-Phillips!
