Couldn’t the powers that be hire someone who could actually pronounce the Spanish names, locations and accent? The “Spanish accent” sounds like muffled Irish or Scottish. A huipil is pronounced Wee-Peel not WhoPill. I love the author so I got through it but it could have been SO MUCH BETTER with someone who could pronounce the words more authentically and didn’t sound so bland.

Love Sydney but Adrians "voice" is awful!

I have listened to the Vampire Academy series and Bloodlines, both narrated by Emily Shaffer. Well the last few books were Emily Shaffer and Alden Ford. Anyway- Adrians character is a snooty and vamp man baby but the character having a British or the interpretation of a high brown accent is terrible! I can barely stand to listen to Ms. Shaffer because it's soooo terrible. I can say that she's versatile at the female parts of her narration and her voices for Eddie and Wolfe are spot on. I think the move to have female and male voice actors through out the Bloodlines series would have been so much better though. All in all, the books are fun and even though I can't stand Adrians voice...I still listen to them ;o)

Story is nice but I wish the narration was better

Alden Ford did a great job! It was nice to have every other chapter with him balancing out the more tin-like voice of Emily Shaffer. I was always disappointed with her performance and that awful Russian accent! Thank goodness Adrian's character lost the horrible fake English or Toff like accent. My only issue with the story is when Rose couldn't stop using "Comrade" or maybe it was the way Emily Shaffer said it...ugh.

Disappointing

What disappointed you about The Case of the Murdered Muckraker?
I wasn't impressed with the many stereotypical Americanisms used. Why do authors insist on putting "G** Dam*" somewhere in the story when portraying American men? Not all American men or women use that vulgarity and I was disappointed in the narrator and her portrayal of the American characters. The stereotypical "darlings!" and "Great Scott"s were over the top as well.
Has The Case of the Murdered Muckraker turned you off from other books in this genre?
I sure hope not! I have really enjoyed the series. I can totally empathize with other listeners/readers, in their assessments that this book is hopefully just a one off. I plan on returning the book and going on to the next one.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The very annoying American character portrayals. The New York accent she tried was abysmal.

For those that still liked this book; good on you! For me it simply wasn't something I enjoyed.

I LOVE these books, rather sad I wasted a credit on this one but glad to hear the book since I don’t have the time in this season to read it again.

Man o man! Why couldn't Emily Shaffer have narrated the entire series?? She's really grown on me and captures the characters well. I enjoyed this book far more than the other gals narrations!
