Historia
He was a gentle dreamer whose genial bearded visage was recognized around the world, but most people got to know him only through the iconic characters born of his fertile imagination: Kermit the Frog, Bert and Ernie, Miss Piggy, Big Bird. The Muppets made Jim Henson a household name, but they were just part of his remarkable story.

Sensational, Inspirational, Celebrational!

I have read all the books and I have seen all the docs on Jim Henson and this was the best of them all. The detail and depth of the material is great and the narrator takes a stab at doing the voices and takes on a funny cantankerous tone when he reads Frank Oz quotes and it cracked me up each time he did the cranky Frank voice. His Jerry Nelson impression was pretty good too. The best part was I learned a ton I never knew about Jim Henson and I truly knew most everything already so this was a great experience and I was sad when it was over.

Historia
In 1972, at the age of 21, John Callahan was involved in a car crash that severed his spine and made him a quadriplegic. A heavy drinker since the age of 12, the accident could have been the beginning of a downward spiral. Instead, it sparked a personal transformation. After extensive physical therapy, he was eventually able to grasp a pen in his right hand and make rudimentary drawings. By 1978, Callahan had sworn off drinking for good and begun to draw cartoons. Over the next three decades, Callahan would become one of the nation's most beloved cartoonists.

Inspirational!

First of all, the narrator couldn't have been more perfect for the subject matter. Incredible delivery and a perfect voice for the material. Second, I read the book in high school. I was a wanna-be cartoonist and someone gave me the book and I was amazed someone paralyzed could find a way to draw. I immediately responded to John Callahan's irreverent humor and became more intrigued with his personal life than with his cartooning career. There was some mention of his process in a later chapter regarding cartooning but the majority of the book is about Callahan's struggle to overcome alcohol addiction and find peace with his past and I was hooked reading it cover to cover in no time. 25 years after I first read the book I revisit it as an alcoholic myself. I had forgotten all about John Callahan over the years until I heard a movie based on the book was coming out and it all came back to me and I got the audible version and listened to it straight through. This is not just a recovery diary. John Callahan's life story is for anyone since it is ultimately an uplifting and touching example which proves where there's a will there's a way and nothing can snuff out the human spirit.

Historia
From his rapid-fire stand-up comedy riffs to his breakout role in Mork & Mindy and his Academy Award-winning performance in Good Will Hunting, Robin Williams was a singularly innovative and beloved entertainer. He often came across as a man possessed, holding forth on culture and politics while mixing in personal revelations - all with mercurial, tongue-twisting intensity as he inhabited and shed one character after another with lightning speed. But as Dave Itzkoff shows in this revelatory biography, Williams’ comic brilliance masked a deep well of conflicting emotions and self-doubt.

Worth It
Revisado: 12-01-18
My earliest memory is the movie Popeye. I got a Mork doll for Christmas. My mom and dad hated each other but I watched them laugh and cry watching Good Morning Vietnam together. At age 20 in the mid 90's I found a VHS tape for sale in some obscure video bin called Seize The Day with Robin Williams which I still have. It's practically non-existent and I feel lucky to have stumbled upon it. If my life flashes before my eyes when I die it's a guarantee that a large portion of it will be The Fisher King since I've seen it over and over. August 11, 2014 was a very sad day for me. I listened to this audio book in 2 days. The narrator was able to emphasize dialects as needed without sounding over the top and the more he added inflections to his voice and even did occasional impressions it didn't turn me off. I felt like I was listening to someone that cared about this incredible person as much as I did. I was too young to know what it was like when Marilyn Monroe or Elvis died. I didn't have a concept of what John Lennon meant to people. for me, and my experience is my own, the loss of Robin Williams is one of those lifetime moments I'll never forget. My life is enhanced because of what he did for me and fans across the world. He made me laugh. He made me cry. He made me cry from laughing. This book and audio book are so respectful and at the same time tons of information is shared that I never knew before about one of my favorite famous people. I highly recommend it.
