Historia
In this myth-busting book, Daniel Lieberman, professor of human evolutionary biology at Harvard University and a pioneering researcher on the evolution of human physical activity, tells the story of how we never evolved to exercise - to do voluntary physical activity for the sake of health. Using his own research and experiences throughout the world, Lieberman recounts without jargon how and why humans evolved to walk, run, dig, and do other necessary and rewarding physical activities while avoiding needless exertion.

Exercise is critical for human health and longevity
Revisado: 06-26-24
Necessity has kept our ancestors busy moving in daily acts of living but we never did it for recreation. In humans there evolved a positive need for grandparents to support their grandchildren so that their children could successively produce future generations. In these situations the grandparents often worked harder than their children to support the very young and contribute to feeding the family. These grandparents lived a long life free of disease and died after a longer life than their closest related primate species.
Today, families often live apart by age separation into young family communities, empty nesters and retirement age communities will much less interaction and much less motivation to stay active with the resultant loss of quality of life as we age.
We can choose recreational exercise which is not a natural choice unless we are an active part of a multigenerational family or we will lose muscle strength, sarcopenia, and bone strength, osteopenia, and become vulnerable to a weakened immune system, loss of balance, falling and a faster decline in our quality of life even if we live a long but disabled life.
I enjoyed this historic review of our current health status compared to the great apes and to the few existing hunter gatherer groups in the world and the useful suggestions as to how to improve our quality of life today by incorporating exercise into our lives with new motivations to do so as the historical ones are no longer necessary but are still valuable to lead a vital life with maximum options for continued health and vitality.

Great history about Appalachian Seed Savers
Revisado: 11-09-23
I loved the voice of the narrator. Having been born in Tennessee, his voice had down home authenticity and personal authority. This is a wonderful book with inspiring stories of all the seed savers that protected our unique culinary heritage that we inherited from Native Americans from their gifting to us and sometimes by our taking their their land and seeds.
The way early settlers saved seeds that they acquired by intermarriage and then passing down through multiple generations until today is inspiring and reveals the closeness of families and their pride in maintaining genetic purity, taste and nutrition from these precious heirloom seeds that were and still are important to these hardy and resourceful people who have given us the gift of the choice over modern versions that emphasize color, shipping hardiness, and toughness to withstand mechanical harvesting over taste, quality and regional traditions and variety.

Cancer, Finally the Honest Truth
Revisado: 10-07-22
The Cancer Code covers the entire history of cancer honestly without manipulating the static’s and describes what has had some success as well as the hundreds of billions of dollars wasted on the genetic study of cancer that solved nothing but gave cancer researchers chance after chance to find the highly profitable magic bullet rather than pursue other lines of research which were neglected and unfunded because of years of unproductive research that didn’t help anyone. Finally it concluded with the hope of Immunotherapy which is using our own Immune system along with obscenely expensive drugs because big Pharma can charge anything it wants to regardless of the production cost because those of us who live in the USA are forced to pay the market price because of our corrupt economy and without any government protection because the Drug companies pay our politicians to vote their way or be replaced by someone who will. Dr. Fung doesn’t get into politics but Americans know that we pay more for health care than any other advanced economy and we get the poorest results for our money.

Inspiring and full of Information
Revisado: 10-07-18
I liked the informal way the information was presented so that it was accessible. I also liked the pairing with the Kindle Edition so I could read along and follow the narration to help keep me focused and not get distracted. It seemed to help me to absorb the material better.
I have two family members that are struggling with cancer so the information was spot on and I sent a copy of the Audible edition to the family members who had cancer or were in a caretaker position.
I’m also diabetic and overweight; I e been adapting a Ketogenic diet and fasting program so I found the book very useful to me personally.
I enjoyed the presentation and would recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their health or that of a loved one.
There are couple of editing glitches, but they are minor and did not detract from the information or my understanding at all.

Historia
Dish up the red meat, eggs, and whole milk! In this well-researched and captivating narrative, veteran food writer Nina Teicholz proves how everything we've been told about fat is wrong. For decades, Americans have cut back on red meat and dairy products full of "bad" saturated fats. We obediently complied with nutritional guidelines to eat "heart healthy" fats found in olive oil, fish, and nuts, and followed a Mediterranean diet heavy on fruits, vegetables, and grains. Yet the nation's health has declined. What is going on?

Everything you thought you knew about diet was wrong!
Revisado: 07-10-18
Having been born in 1946 I’ve grown up with a changing list of dietary recommendations which I assumed were based on carefully planned studies and hard facts. Nina Teicholz reviews the flawed science and opinions of powerful leaders who used the power of their personalities and political savvy to create unimaginable speculative changes to the American Diet that have made Americans fatter, subject to more chronic diseases. When the obvious flaws in their studies were discovered they were just swept under the table and the scientists who dare question their fragile consensus were ostracized to the academic fringes unable to get funding for research or to hold prestigious positions on powerful panels. We have not on been made sicker and fatter in America but we have changed the diets of other cultures because of the unearned position of leadership American Nutritional Research has achieved on the world stage. None of the researchers were evil or had bad intentions, but the took shortcuts in their research and ignored any study that disagreed with their opinions.
This book is a fascinating history of how our food choices and opinions have been based on false information promoted by strong personalities who practiced bad science.
