Historia
There are plenty of words Jonah Collins could use to describe Dylan Ramírez. “Arrogant,” “spoiled,” and “golden boy” to name a few. Likewise, Dylan thinks he has Jonah accurately labeled as an attention-seeking asshat who never shuts his filthy mouth. Their friends are convinced Jonah’s and Dylan’s disdain for one another is just thinly veiled lust—a rumor that surges like wildfire when the two wake up in one bed after homecoming. Mutually horrified, Dylan and Jonah agree to use the faux pas to their advantage by fake dating.

A pleasant surprise

I wasn’t a fan of how the main characters got together but by the end, this became a favorite for its wonderful representation and the respectful way it tackled the challenges facing the protagonists and their friends.

I really understood the characters, so much heartbreak and loss. Loved the banter and emotional exchanges between Jamie and Parker. And any glimpse of Cal is always awesome. Lol.

Historia
Of all the people who could have seen me when I was at my most vulnerable, it had to be him. Caleb. My stepbrother and the golden child of our messed up blended family. We barely know each other, but for some reason, he takes care of me when an incident at the club leaves me helpless and alone. He hates me as much as I hate him, but something about his bossy attitude and unflappable calm soothes me. I don't want to want him, but no one has ever made me feel the way he does.

Entertaining but not as fulfilling as the stories centered around the college 4.
Revisado: 02-09-24
Story was okay. No clue why the need to constantly stress that they were stepbrothers. Not enough character development to make falling in love believable for me but I guess that happened between the lines. Wasn’t a fan of Gray’s overall storyline. After all he’s been through, would have been great if whatever dream he abandoned when he lost his chance at college was realized. I might have liked it better if it was a free read instead of the credit I spent. I really wanted something great for Gray.
Narration was okay. For one narrator, couldn’t tell the difference between the two characters so that was confusing.

Her world was color. Canvas and paint. Indie O'Connell lived inside her head. Her voices the muse. And as a freshman at St. Peter's College, all she wanted was to create a name for herself with the brush in her hand. His world was over. Despite his humble upbringing, Kai Carter seemed to have it all. Captain of the swim team and a full scholarship. His golden boy status a mask he had to wear to keep his dream and his family afloat. All the pieces of his life dangled precariously from his fingertips. They never planned for their worlds to collide.

Wonderful storytelling
Revisado: 02-06-24
Loved this book more than I expected. The writing had an almost lyrical quality and the story itself was deep and painful and frustrating and beautiful and perfect. I almost feel like Royal’s story was the appetizer and this, the main course. Definitely a favorite and possibly a future re-read once I recover.

Historia
When their ex-boyfriends get together and start Instagramming a disgustingly perfect summer of love, Jack and Nate decide to concoct a mutual Insta-worthy summer adventure of their own to prove they’re just fine and everything’s great. Of course, it’s hard to have an epic summer road trip when they’re stuck in a van with Nate's mid-life crisis-bound parents and his annoying younger sister. And it’s been years since Jack and Nate have said more than a few sentences to each other. But their followers don’t have to know any of that.

Sweet story about healing after a breakup. The author did a great job bringing us along as the two friends reconnected. Fun situations as well. Worth a read if you want something light.

Historia
The first thing I noticed about C.J. Gorman was his plexiglass bra. So begins Destination Unknown—it's 1987 in New York City, and Micah is at a dance club, trying to pretend he's more out and outgoing than he really is. C.J. isn't just out—he’s complete out there, and Micah can't help but be both attracted to and afraid of someone who travels so loudly and proudly through the night. A connection occurs. Is it friendship? Romance? Is C.J. the one with all the answers... or does Micah bring more to the relationship that it first seems?

A wonderful story about a sad and shameful time in our history
Revisado: 06-03-23
I was a preteen during the time setting for this book, and I am not gay or a man, so I didn’t get it. Now I get it, and I wish more had been done, and I wonder what I can do now. I am a big fan of Bill Konigsberg specifically for his development of real relationships in prose. No one does it like him.

Social commentary
Revisado: 05-23-23
Human and social commentary. Not what I consider political like other reviewers have said, but a recognition of how blind we can be even when we think we’re woke. Creative way of having a protagonist really walk in someone else’s shoes.

One of Bell’s best
Revisado: 01-16-22
This one was exceptional. The topic of race and sexuality was carefully tackled during the supposed ‘good old days’ as a love transcended time. It’s hard not to feel deeply for the characters and want the best outcome for them. The ending is satisfying and believable - ageism is a thing that needs to be nipped in the bud too.

This is the first book I’ve listened to straight through. I loved the subject matter and the honesty in the writing about anxiety, depression, being non-binary and dealing with everything that brings. Hoping to see more from Mason Deaver.

Excellent relationship development
Revisado: 08-14-21
A whole lot of unlikeable characters and one really heartbreakingly sad boy. One character in particular, I still don’t understand her behavior, which the author mentions at the and, acknowledging that she also had no clue why she developed the character the way she did. But, I liked the story enough to look past the parts that made no sense. I liked the writing style, not too flowery, not too casual, and the development of the bond between the brothers was well done. Best of all, after all that grief, the ending was not necessarily happy but it was satisfying which is all I really want from my books.
